Anaerobic reaction of ascorbate oxidase with ascorbate

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1978
Abstract Ascorbate oxidase is fully reduced by 4 mol of ascorbate in the absence of air, as monitored by optical and electron paramagnetic resonance spectra. At less than stoichiometric ascorbate concentration there is a slow equilibration between the 605-and 330-nm absorption bands: The 605-nm chromophore is first reduced, then its color reappears ...

RNA-Ascorbate Interaction

Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, 1998
Ascorbic acid and divalent iron salts have been widely used to investigate the effects of reactive oxygen species in different biological targets such as nucleic acids, proteins and lipids. This study was designed to examine the interaction of yeast RNA with vitamin C in aqueous solution at physiological pH with drug/RNA(P)(P=phosphate) molar ratios of

Crystal structure of the ascorbate peroxidase–ascorbate complex

Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, 2003
Heme peroxidases catalyze the H2O2-dependent oxidation of a variety of substrates, most of which are organic. Mechanistically, these enzymes are well characterized: they share a common catalytic cycle that involves formation of a two-electron, oxidized Compound I intermediate followed by two single-electron reduction steps by substrate.

Ascorbate Metabolism in Potato Leaves Supplied with Exogenous Ascorbate

Free Radical Research, 1999
Photosynthesis and leaf ascorbate were measured in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) plants grown in low light and then transferred to high light. Total foliar ascorbate content in low light-grown plants was 4.72+/-0.42 micromol mg(-1)chl. Over 80% of the ascorbate pool was found in the reduced form irrespective of position on the stem.

Ascorbic Acid Revisited

Archives of Dermatology, 1977
or topical, will speed the unyielding pace of wound healing. On the other hand, there is a multiplicity of possible impediments to wound heal¬ ing, such as infection, dietary inade¬ quacy, concurrent illness, or allergy. When faced with a problem in wound healing, the clinician simply has to identify and to rectify the impedi¬ ments, allowing normal ...
