Aspergillus flavus is saprophytic soil fungus that infects and contaminates preharvest and postharvest seed crops with the carcinogenic secondary metabolite aflatoxin. The fungus is also an opportunistic animal and human pathogen causing aspergillosis diseases with incidence increasing in the immunocompromised population.

Aflatoxins in mutants of Aspergillus flavus
Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1974Mutants ofAspergillus flavus were recovered following the irradiation of conidia with ultraviolet light. Analysis of the mutants for aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, and G2 indicated a wide range of variability in aflatoxin levels. None of the isolates produced the G toxins, and four produced little or no aflatoxin B2.

Intracellular hydrolases of Aspergillus, parasiticus and Aspergillus, flavus
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1989When the distribution profile of hydrolases in mycelial homogenates and culture filtrates of A. parasiticus and A. flavus was examined, six hydrolytic enzymes viz. N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, aryl sulfatase, alkaline proteinase, cathepsin B, cathepsin D and aminopeptidase were detected in homogenate. The culture filtrates were devoid of any activity

Aspergillus flavus sinusitis in ALL
American Journal of Hematology, 2008A 17-year-old girl with ALL developed acute onset left eye swelling and facial pain on day 23 of phase II of the UKALL XII protocol. She had been neutropaenic for 14 days at this time. She had neutropenic fever since day 17 with no obvious cause for this identified up to the time facial swelling appeared. This occurred despite broad-spectrum antibiotic

Endocarditis due to Aspergillus flavus
Mycoses, 1997Summary. Fungal endocarditis has emerged as an important complication of patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. Our patient had no past history of cardiac surgery, intravenous drug abuse or immunosuppressive therapy. He had received broad‐spectrum antibiotics for varying periods, which might have predisposed him to this infection.

Aspergillus flavus endocarditis in a child with neuroblastoma
Journal of Infection, 1998We report a case of Aspergillus flavus endocarditis in a 6-year-old boy with stage IV neuroblastoma with no pre-existing cardiac disease. The infection was successfully treated with high-dose liposomal amphotericin (AmBisome) once daily. Recurrence was prevented with itraconazole oral solution once daily as maintenance therapy.

Biotransformation of Imperatorin by Aspergillus flavus
Journal of Natural Products, 2004Imperatorin (1) was metabolized by Aspergillus flavus, in growth media, to give five metabolites. On the basis of their physical data, the structures of the five metabolites were elucidated as xanthotoxol (2), E-trichoclin (3), Z-trichoclin (4), E-imperatorin acid (5), and Z-imperatorin acid (6); among these, 4, 5, and 6 were characterized as new ...

Sexual reproduction inAspergillus flavus
Mycologia, 2009Aspergillus flavus is the major producer of carcinogenic aflatoxins in crops worldwide and is also an important opportunistic human pathogen in aspergillosis. The sexual state of this heterothallic fungus is described from crosses between strains of the opposite mating type.
