Changes in the Unchangeable: Simulation of Transient Astronomical Phenomena with Stellarium

Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2018
AbstractThe open-source desktop planetarium Stellarium has become very popular in astronomical education and outreach. Our recent changes aim for its applicability in historical and archaeoastronomical simulation contexts. Apart from visualizing the seemingly perpetual regular motions of the celestial bodies, it can be used to visualize and demonstrate

Numerical simulation of anisoplanatic imaging of astronomical telescope through atmospheric turbulence

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
Anisoplanatism refers to the fact that the turbulence-induced wavefront distortions for propagation paths from the observed object with even slightly different propagation directions can be considerably different. A numerical simulation method of anisoplanatic imaging through volume atmospheric turbulence has been developed in this paper.

A Simulating Experiment on the Ancient Chinese Astronomical Clock Tower

2007
It is very helpful and illuminating to utilize a new method to reconstruct an ancient machine which does not exist now. This paper introduces a research experiment with the computer simulation on the astronomical clock tower built in ancient China. We have set a simulation model with computer software and tried to reconstruct the ancient machine and ...
