Chiral Brønsted Acids for Asymmetric Organocatalysis
2009Chiral Brønsted acid catalysis is an emerging area of organocatalysis. Since the pioneering studies of the groups of Akiyama and Terada in 2004 on the use of chiral BINOL phosphates as powerful Brønsted acid catalysts in asymmetric Mannich-type reactions, numerous catalytic asymmetric transformations involving imine activation have been realized by ...

Masked Unsaturated Esters/Amides in Asymmetric Organocatalysis
Chemistry – A European Journal, 2015AbstractThis Concept article summarizes strategies and developments regarding the use of masked unsaturated esters/amides in asymmetric organocatalysis. Useful substrates are categorized by the design of their inherent carboxylate template.

A Chiral Solvent Effect in Asymmetric Organocatalysis
Organic Letters, 2010Proline-catalyzed aldol reactions between enolizable ketones and aromatic aldehydes can be carried out in propylene carbonate. When enantiomerically pure propylene carbonate is used, the combination of (R)-proline and (R)-propylene carbonate constitutes a matched pair, while (S)-proline and (R)-propylene carbonate constitutes a mismatched pair.

Asymmetric synthesis of tetrahydroquinolines through supramolecular organocatalysis
Org. Biomol. Chem., 2014Functionalized chiral tetrahydroquinolines were synthesized through supramolecular organocatalysis using quinidine-NH-thiourea 3c/l-phenylalanine 4i followed by reductive amination from the simple substrates.

Activation of Carboxylic Acids in Asymmetric Organocatalysis
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2014AbstractOrganocatalysis, catalysis using small organic molecules, has recently evolved into a general approach for asymmetric synthesis, complementing both metal catalysis and biocatalysis.1 Its success relies to a large extent upon the introduction of novel and generic activation modes.2 Remarkably though, while carboxylic acids have been used as ...
