PDZK1‐ULK1 Axis Triggers Lipophagy to Inhibit Tumor Progression and Sunitinib Resistance in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 23, 23 April 2026.
This study reveals that PDZK1 loss impairs ULK1‐mediated lipophagy, driving lipid droplet accumulation and sunitinib resistance in clear cell renal cell carcinoma. PDZK1 inhibits LEF1 nuclear translocation, enhancing ULK1 transcription. Pharmacological ULK1 activation resensitizes resistant tumors to sunitinib.

Selective Neural Deletion of the Atg7 Gene Reduces Irradiation-Induced Cerebellar White Matter Injury in the Juvenile Mouse Brain by Ameliorating Oligodendrocyte Progenitor Cell Loss

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2019
Radiotherapy is an effective tool for treating brain tumors, but irradiation-induced toxicity to the normal brain tissue remains a major problem. Here, we investigated if selective neural autophagy related gene 7 (Atg7) deletion has a persistent effect ...

Targeting the GPX4–FUNDC1 Interaction with Magnesium Lithospermate B Attenuates Sepsis‐Associated Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 20, 9 April 2026.
The diagram depicts the endothelial‐protective mechanism of magnesium lithospermate B (MLB) in sepsis‐associated lung injury. MLB binds GPX4 at Gly79, disrupts its interaction with FUNDC1, prevents mitophagy‐mediated GPX4 degradation, restores mitophagic flux, reduces ROS, and limits ferroptosis.

Oxidative stress impairs autophagy through oxidation of ATG3 and ATG7 [PDF]

open access: yesAutophagy, 2018
Dysfunctional macroautophagy/autophagy has been causatively linked to aging and the pathogenesis of many diseases, which are also broadly characterized by dysregulated cellular redox. As the autophagy-related (ATG) conjugation systems that mediate autophagosome maturation are cysteine dependent, their oxidation may account for loss in this catabolic ...

Autophagy in Myf5+ progenitors regulates energy and glucose homeostasis through control of brown fat and skeletal muscle development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Macroautophagy (MA) regulates cellular quality control and energy balance. For example, loss of MA in aP2-positive adipocytes converts white adipose tissue (WAT) into brown adipose tissue (BAT)-like, enhancing BAT function and thereby insulin sensitivity.

Antagonistic Ubiquitin Switching by USP7 and RNF40 Orchestrates KDM6A Homeostasis to License Coronavirus Susceptibility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 23, 23 April 2026.
We identify an antagonistic ubiquitin circuit that controls cellular permissiveness to multiple coronaviruses. The deubiquitinase USP7 stabilizes the epigenetic regulator KDM6A to upregulate viral receptors, while the E3 ligase RNF40 degrades KDM6A by catalyzing K6/K11‐ubiquitin chains of KDM6A for autophagic degradation.

Inhibition of autophagy-related protein 7 enhances anti-tumor immune response and improves efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade in microsatellite instability colorectal cancer

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research
Background The efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy is primarily hindered by the limited T-cell immune response rate and immune evasion capacity of tumor cells.

Loss of the starvation-induced gene Rack1 leads to glycogen deficiency and impaired autophagic responses in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Autophagy delivers cytoplasmic material for lysosomal degradation in eukaryotic cells. Starvation induces high levels of autophagy to promote survival in the lack of nutrients. We compared genome-wide transcriptional profiles of fed and starved control,

ATG7 Limits Basal Antiviral Gene Expression and Moderately Promotes VSV Replication in Mammalian Non-Immune Cells

open access: yesPathogens
The autophagy regulator ATG7 helps maintain cellular homeostasis and has been suggested to modulate aspects of antiviral immune responses. In Drosophila, ATG7-dependent autophagy contributes to host resistance to vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), a ...

Pan-Bcl-2 inhibitor Obatoclax is a potent late stage autophagy inhibitor in colorectal cancer cells independent of canonical autophagy signaling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignancy in humans and novel therapeutic approaches are urgently needed. Autophagy is an evolutionarily highly conserved cellular process by which cells collect unnecessary organelles or misfolded ...
