Influence of dietary intervention on microvascular endothelial function in coronary patients and atherothrombotic risk of recurrence

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Endothelial dysfunction is a key player in both the onset and development of atherosclerosis. No study has examined whether healthy dietary patterns can improve microvascular endothelial function in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) in the long ...

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Secretion of biologically active human proapolipoprotein A-I in a baculovirus-insect cell system: protection from degradation by protease inhibitors

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1995
Studies of the structure and function of apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) often require its purification by delipidation of high density lipoprotein isolated from large quantities of human plasma and separation of apoA-I from other plasma apolipoproteins.

Inflammation in atherosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2002
Experimental work has elucidated molecular and cellular pathways of inflammation that promote atherosclerosis. Unraveling the roles of cytokines as inflammatory messengers provided a mechanism whereby risk factors for atherosclerosis can alter arterial biology, and produce a systemic milieu that favors atherothrombotic events.

The pathogenesis of atherosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetologia, 1997
Atherosclerosis is the underlying cause of arterial occlusion resulting in myocardial and cerebral infarction, and is the leading cause of death in Western Europe and the United States [1]. It is estimated that in the United States alone, about six million persons have symptomatic myocardial ischaemia, and that approximately one American dies every ...

Spinal Cord Infarction Versus Idiopathic Transverse Myelitis: Clinical, Radiological, and Functional Insights From a Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Spinal cord infarction (SCI) is a rare but devastating myelopathy, characterized by a high disability rate and an unfavorable prognosis. It has often been underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed as idiopathic transverse myelitis (ITM). This study aimed to describe the clinical features, radiological biomarkers, treatments, and functional ...

Lipolysis-induced partitioning of free fatty acids to lipoproteins: effect on the biological properties of free fatty acids.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1995
Free fatty acids (FFA) released during the lipolysis of triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins in vivo are generally believed to be bound to serum albumin.

Serum sialic acid and sialoglycoproteins in asymptomatic carotid artery atherosclerosis. ARIC Investigators. Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities

open access: yes, 1999
Serum total sialic acid (S-TSA) is a recently identified risk marker for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular mortality. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of three sialic acid rich glycoproteins (orosomucoid, haptoglobin, and alpha1 ...
