Ultrafast Rabi oscillation of a Gaussian atom ensemble [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We investigate Rabi oscillation of an atom ensemble in Gaussian spatial distribution. By using the ultrafast laser interaction with the cold atomic rubidium vapor spatially confined in a magneto-optical trap, the oscillatory behavior of the atom excitation is probed as a function of the laser pulse power. Theoretical model calculation predicts that the

Benchmarking a first-principles thermal neutron scattering law for water ice with a diffusion experiment

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
The neutron scattering properties of water ice are of interest to the nuclear criticality safety community for the transport and storage of nuclear materials in cold environments.

Saturation and alternate pathways in four-wave mixing in rubidium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We have examined the frequency spectrum of the blue light generated via four-wave mixing in a rubidium vapor cell inside a ring cavity. At high atomic density and input laser power, two distinct frequency components separated by $116 \pm 4$ MHz are ...

Bohmian mechanics to high-order harmonic generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper introduces Bohmian mechanics (BM) into the intense laser-atom physics to study high-order harmonic generation. In BM, the trajectories of atomic electrons in intense laser field can be obtained with the Bohm-Newton equation. The power spectrum with the trajectory of an atomic electron is calculated, which is found to be irregular.

Spectral Asymmetry of Atoms in the van der Waals Potential of an Optical Nanofiber [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. A 97, 032509 (2018), 2018
We measure the modification of the transmission spectra of cold $^{87}$Rb atoms in the proximity of an optical nanofiber (ONF). Van der Waals interactions between the atoms an the ONF surface decrease the resonance frequency of atoms closer to the surface. An asymmetric spectra of the atoms holds information of their spatial distribution around the ONF.

Investigation on ultimate strength of thin wall tee pipe for sodium cooled fast reactor under seismic loading

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2016
It is important to investigate the failure mode and ultimate strength of piping components in order to evaluate the seismic integrity of piping. Many failure tests of thick wall and high pressure piping for Light Water Reactors (LWRs) have been ...

Self-Channeling of High-Power Long-Wave Infrared Pulses in Atomic Gases.

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2017
We simulate and elucidate the self-channeling of high-power 10  μm infrared pulses in atomic gases. The major new result is that the peak intensity can remain remarkably stable over many Rayleigh ranges.

Interaction of antiprotons with Rb atoms and a comparison of antiproton stopping powers of the atoms H, Li, Na, K, and Rb [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Ionization and excitation cross sections as well as electron-energy spectra and stopping powers of the alkali metal atoms Li, Na, K, and Rb colliding with antiprotons were calculated using a time-dependent channel-coupling approach. An impact-energy range from 0.25 keV to 4000 keV was considered.

The cytoskeletal control of B cell receptor and integrin signaling in normal B cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.
