Facile fabrication of self-assembled monolayers of organosilanes for antibiofilm applications

open access: yesResults in Surfaces and Interfaces
Biofilm is a conglomeration of microbial cells, encased in extracellular polymeric matrix. Biofilm formation at solid-liquid interfaces is imminent to microfouling and poses serious operational problems in various industrial, clinical and environmental ...

Distinguishing coherent atomic processes using wave mixing

open access: yes, 2012
We are able to clearly distinguish the processes responsible for enhanced low-intensity atomic Kerr nonlinearity, namely coherent population trapping and coherent population oscillations in experiments performed on the Rb D1 line, where one or the other ...

Synchronous control of dual-channel all-optical multi-state switching [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We have experimentally observed optical multistabilities (OMs) simultaneously on both the signal and generated Stokes fields in an optical ring cavity with a coherently-prepared multilevel atomic medium.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Tracing Magnetic Fields with Ground State Alignment

open access: yes, 2012
Observational studies of magnetic fields are vital as magnetic fields play a crucial role in various astrophysical processes, including star formation, accretion of matter, transport processes (e.g., transport of heat), and cosmic rays.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Study of the Triplet States in the Autoionizing Electron Spectra of He and Ar Induced by Low-Energy Electrons

open access: yesAtoms
In this work, the He and Ar triplet autoionizing states have been studied using a non-monochromatic electron beam and a high-resolution electrostatic analyzer at low incident electron energies and three ejection angles: 40°, 90°, and 130°.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Atomic screening of nuclear transitions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
In the analysis of time-reversal and Mössbauer absorption experiments, it is important to consider atomic processes which interfere with the direct nuclear transition.
