Raman spectral band imaging for the diagnostics and classification of canine and feline cutaneous tumors

open access: yesVeterinary Quarterly
This study introduces Raman imaging technique for diagnosing skin cancer in veterinary oncology patients (dogs and cats). Initially, Raman spectral bands (with specificity to certain molecular structures and functional groups) were identified in formalin-

Chirality dependent spin polarization of carbon nanotubes

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
The spin polarization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) offers a tunable building block for spintronic devices and is also crucial for realizing carbon-based electronics. However, the effect of chiral CNTs is still unclear.

High-resolution antenna near-field imaging and sub-THz measurements with a small atomic vapor-cell sensing element

open access: yes, 2018
Atomic sensing and measurement of millimeter-wave (mmW) and THz electric fields using quantum-optical EIT spectroscopy of Rydberg states in atomic vapors has garnered significant interest in recent years towards the development of atomic electric-field ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Comparison of a near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy system and skin conductance measurements for in vivo estimation of skin hydration: a clinical study

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Photonics & Engineering, 2017
Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy system was developed for estimation of skin hydration in the near-infrared spectral range of 900-1700 nm. Experimental setup consisted of a near-infrared spectrometer, Y-type fiber optics probe with 1 detection and 6 ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Measurement of the 52Fe mass via the precise proton-decay energy of 53Com

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
The proton decay of 53Com(3174.1 keV; 19/2−) was investigated via the fragmentation of a 58Ni primary beam. The proton-decay energy was determined with an improved precision to be 1558(8) keV.

Use of the speckle imaging sub-pixel correlation analysis in revealing a mechanism of microbial colony growth

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The microbial colony growth is driven by the activity of the cells located on the edges of the colony. However, this process is not visible unless specific staining or cross-sectioning of the colony is done.

Multi‐omics and low‐input proteomics profiling reveals dynamic regulation driving pluripotency initiation in early mouse embryos

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mouse pre‐implantation development involves a transition from totipotency to pluripotency. Integrating transcriptomics, epigenetic profiling, low‐input proteomics and functional assays, we show that eight‐cell embryos retain residual totipotency features, whereas cytoskeletal remodeling regulated by the ubiquitin‐proteasome system drives progression ...
