Rising Burden and Clinical Impact of Metabolic Syndrome in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Real‐World Cohort Study

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 14, Issue 6, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its cardiometabolic complications are recognized in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); however, longitudinal trends and their impact on outcomes remain incompletely defined. We aimed to evaluate temporal trends in cardiometabolic comorbidities and assess the impact of MetS on cardiometabolic, hepatic ...

Diagnostic Impact of Liver Biopsy Among Antinuclear Antibody Positive Individuals With Mild Liver Enzyme Elevation

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 64, Issue 1, Page 103-111, July 2026.
In ANA‐positive patients with suspected autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), liver biopsy rarely altered therapeutic management when alanine aminotransferase (ALT) was below 101 U/L and cirrhosis was absent. These findings suggest that biopsy may be safely deferred in this low‐risk group.

Genomic and Sex Contributions to Interindividual Variability in Pitavastatin Bioavailability

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 139, Issue 1, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim This study investigates pharmacogenetic determinants of pitavastatin disposition using a candidate‐gene approach. Methods In 48 healthy volunteers, 138 variants across 40 genes involved in drug metabolism and transport were analysed to assess their relationship with pitavastatin pharmacokinetics, alongside the influence of sex and ...

Cardiac remodelling in type 2 diabetes: Pathophysiological mechanisms and opportunities for multiscale computational modelling and simulation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 13, Page 5170-5199, 1 July 2026.
Abstract figure legend Overview of multiscale cardiac remodelling in type 2 diabetes and how to model and simulate these changes using a human‐based, multiscale computational framework. Cardiac remodelling in type 2 diabetes occurs at ionic channel, protein, cellular, tissue and whole‐organ level, affecting the electrophysiological function, mechanical
