Biochemical Defects in Retina-specific Human ATP Binding Cassette Transporter Nucleotide Binding Domain 1 Mutants Associated with Macular Degeneration [PDF]
The retina-specific human ABC transporter (ABCR) functions in the retinal transport system and has been implicated in several inherited visual diseases, including Stargardt disease, fundus flavimaculatus, cone-rod dystrophy, and age-related macular degeneration.

ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter B4 Anchors the Cell Adhesion Molecule DdCAD-1 to Cell Membrane in Dictyostelium discoideum [PDF]
In Dictyostelium, soluble cell adhesion molecule, DdCAD-1, regulates cell-cell interaction through an unknown anchoring protein on the plasma membrane. Far western blot analysis using different probes revealed that the potential DdCAD-1 interacting protein was between 64 and 98 kDa.

Abscisic acid (ABA) transporters are essential for the transport of ABA from its sites of synthesis to its multiple sites of action within plants and are key players in plant stress responses. Despite their importance, there is limited information on ABA

HIV-1 Protein Nef Inhibits Activity of ATP-binding Cassette Transporter A1 by Targeting Endoplasmic Reticulum Chaperone Calnexin [PDF]
HIV-infected patients are at increased risk of developing atherosclerosis, in part due to an altered high density lipoprotein profile exacerbated by down-modulation and impairment of ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) activity by the HIV-1 protein Nef. However, the mechanisms of this Nef effect remain unknown.

Nascent HDL formation in hepatocytes and role of ABCA1, ABCG1, and SR-BI
To study the mechanisms of hepatic HDL formation, we investigated the roles of ABCA1, ABCG1, and SR-BI in nascent HDL formation in primary hepatocytes isolated from mice deficient in ABCA1, ABCG1, or SR-BI and from wild-type (WT) mice.

Interferon-γ Induces Downregulation of Tangier Disease Gene (ATP-Binding-Cassette Transporter 1) in Macrophage-Derived Foam Cells [PDF]
Abstract —Cholesterol efflux is a fundamental process that serves to mitigate cholesterol accumulation and macrophage foam cell formation. Recently, we reported that cholesterol efflux to high density lipoprotein subfraction 3 was reduced by interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and that this decrease was associated with an increase in acyl ...
