Evaluation of Three Monitoring Methods for the Native European Crayfish Austropotamobius torrentium
Freshwater Crayfish, 2023Abstract For the stone crayfish, a threatened species listed in the Habitats Directive in Annex II and V, three monitoring methods were evaluated: hand capture by day, hand capture by night and eDNA sampling respectively. The lack of a standardized sampling method in Austria and the simultaneous obligation to monitor and report on the status of ...

Habitat and shelter requirements of the stone crayfish, Austropotamobius torrentium Schrank
Hydrobiologia, 2002The attractiveness of shelters and the relationship between crayfish size and refuge size were investigated in the stone crayfish Austropotamobius torrentium. Shelter suitability was mainly determined by water velocity, stone surface area and stone width. Water depth and stone height had no influence on crayfish occupancy of stones.

Morphological diversity of the stone crayfish (Austropotamobius torrentium) in Croatia [PDF]
The stone crayfish (Austropotamobius torrentium) is one of four native European crayfish species inhabiting Croatian freshwater ecosystems. It is distributed at higher altitudes, in smaller waterbodies of both the Black Sea and Adriatic Sea basins. In the last few decades, noticeable declines of stone crayfish populations have been recorded across its ...
