Advances in Wine Yeast Autolysis: Biochemical and Molecular Mechanisms, and the Release of Organic Compounds in White and Sparkling Wines-An Updated Review. [PDF]

open access: yesCompr Rev Food Sci Food Saf
ABSTRACT Wine yeasts play a central role in alcoholic fermentation and significantly contribute to the sensory attributes of wines through cellular autolysis during lees aging (sur lie), especially in white wines. This process releases organic compounds that alter the wine's chemical and sensory profile.

Increased pathogenicity of pneumococcal serotype 1 is driven by rapid autolysis and release of pneumolysin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 1 is the predominant cause of invasive pneumococcal disease in sub-Saharan Africa, but the mechanism behind its increased invasiveness is not well understood.

Magnetic Properties of Ferritin at Different Levels of Degradation: Implications for MRI-Based Iron Quantification in the Brain. [PDF]

open access: yesMagn Reson Med
ABSTRACT Purpose Ferritin's iron core exhibits complex magnetic properties, as suggested by magnetometry and Mössbauer spectroscopy, which remain incompletely understood. In particular, the antiferromagnetic inner core could influence the accuracy of iron quantification using MRI and raise concerns about postmortem validation studies involving degraded

μ-calpain binds to lipid bilayers via the exposed hydrophobic surface of its Ca2+-activated conformation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
μ- and m-calpain are cysteine proteases requiring micro- and millimolar Ca2+ concentrations for their activation in vitro. Among other mechanisms, interaction of calpains with membrane phospholipids has been proposed to facilitate their activation by ...

Autolysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1975
Physiological conditions that would provide maximal rates of autolysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae were examined. Autolysis was found to occur over a broad pH range with the optimum at pH 9.0 IN 0.05 M tris(hydroxymethyl)amino-methane-maleate buffer. The temperature optimum was found to be 40 C.

Autolysis of Escherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1980
Autolysis of unwashed exponential-phase Escherichia coli cells was efficiently promoted by first submitting them to a quick downshock with distilled water before an upshock with 0.5 M sodium acetate, pH 6.5. The association of these two osmotic shocks had a remarkable synergistic effect and led to significant decreases in turbidity and viability ...

Inhibitory effect of sea cucumber coelomic fluid extracts on white shrimp autolysis

open access: yesShipin yu jixie, 2022
Objective: In this paper, the inhibition of protein degradation in autolysis of white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) surimi by extracts from the coelomic fluid of sea cucumber (Stichopus japonicus), a by-product of sea cucumber processing, was studied ...

Purification of a fragment obtained by autolysis of a PIIIb-SVMP from Bothrops alternatus venom [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Snake Venom Metalloproteinases (SVMPs) represent 43.1% of the components in Bothrops alternatus venom and play an important role in envenomation. Disintegrins and disintegrin-like domains are released by proteolytic processing of PII and PIII classes of ...
