Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Comparative synthesis of particle swarm optimization and neural network for obstacle awareness area coverage path planning

open access: yesFranklin Open
Autonomous vehicles tasked with area coverage in cluttered environments, such as for search and rescue or precision agriculture, require path planners that are not only optimal but also robust and adaptable.

Bayesian inference for stochastic individual-based models of ecological systems: a pest control simulation study

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2015
Mathematical models are of fundamental importance in the understanding of complex population dynamics. For instance, they can be used to predict the population evolution starting from different initial conditions or to test how a system responds to ...

Comparative Analysis of Real-Time Global Illumination Techniques in Current Game Engines

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
The most important component of photorealism in Computer Graphics is given by a physically correct approximation of the light transport. Besides the direct illumination from light sources, there is an indirect illumination, produced by the reflections of

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Design of low-cost inertial multi-redundant navigation control integrated machine

open access: yesDianzi Jishu Yingyong
In order to accurately locate and position the wheeled mobile robot and realize its stable motion control, a low-cost inertial multi-redundant navigation and control integrated machine is designed, and specific software and hardware design methods are ...

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Discrete-time neural Markov models

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology
Background Markov models can be used to describe the movement of individuals between states. In medicine, Markov models are used to describe, for example, disease progression and the effects of interventions on such progression. The models can further be

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Automatic Generation of Examinations in the Automatic Control Courses

open access: yesCoRR
Final written examination is the most important part of summative assessment in automatic control courses. Preparation of the examinations with a given number of points according to the concept of Constructive Alignment (which could be the main concept in future automatic control education) takes significant amount of time of the educator and motivates
