System Identification of Robotic Fish Swimming Reveals Roles of Reactive and Resistive Fluid Force in Two Distinct Swimming Gaits

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
System identification and particle image velocimetry reveal how a modular robotic fish changes thrust physics across gaits. A traveling‐wave, fish‐like motion draws thrust from resistive drag, while a resonant standing‐wave motion is driven by reactive pressure.

A Soft Robotic Jellyfish with Decoupled Actuators for Agile 3D Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study presents a soft robotic jellyfish featuring a functionally decoupled actuation architecture. By separating propulsion, steering, and vertical regulation into independent modules, the robot overcomes conventional coupled‐motion limitations. Utilizing a passive‐valve‐based differential drag strategy and lateral water jets, it achieves agile 3D

AUV/ASC cooperative survey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper we describe a solution to perform autonomous surveys taking advantage of a cooperative multivehicle setup. In the proposed configuration, an ASC provides –through an USBL- absolute positioning and communications to an AUV.

Uncovering Cystic Fibrosis Carrier: Insights From a Heterozygous CFTR‐F508del Rabbit Model

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a heterogeneous inflammatory disorder frequently associated with impaired mucociliary clearance and bacterial infection. Individuals carrying a single cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) mutation exhibit partial CFTR dysfunction and are increasingly recognized as being at risk ...

Investigation into the Dynamics and Control of an Underwater Vehicle-Manipulator System

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering, 2013
This study addresses the detailed modeling and simulation of the dynamic coupling between an underwater vehicle and manipulator system. The dynamic coupling effects due to damping, restoring, and inertial effects of an underwater manipulator mounted on ...

Design of Software for Underwater Vehicles Operating in a Swarm [PDF]

open access: yesTransNav
The paper presents a design of software for underwater vehicles constructed as part of the European Defence Agency project entitled SABUVIS II. Since the aim of the project is to develop a technology for a swarm of underwater vehicles, the software of ...

Biofilm Exoproteins From Staphylococcus Species Impede Re‐Epithelialization of Nasal Epithelial Cells During Wound Healing and Cease Ciliary Beat Frequency

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is an inflammatory disease with many different contributing factors, including bacterial infection. CRS patients are typically managed with medical therapies; however, these treatments frequently fail, leaving surgery as the only viable option.

Range-only benthic Rover localization off the central California coast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Nowadays, the use of autonomous vehicles for ocean research has increased, since these vehicles have a better cost/performance ratio than crewed vessels or oceanographic ships.

When Do Robots Go Green? Unveiling Mechanisms, Thresholds, and Spillovers of Industrial Robotics on Global Ecological Capacity

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper examines the relationship between industrial robotics adoption and ecological capacity, measured by biocapacity, using panel data from 50 countries over the period 2000–2024. We investigate the transmission mechanisms, non‐linearities, spatial spillovers, and heterogeneity characterizing this relationship.
