Hormonal Properties of Avidin-Biotinylinsulin and Avidin-Biotinylcorticotropin Complexes

Hoppe-Seyler´s Zeitschrift für physiologische Chemie, 1981
In connection with the development of affinity columns (based on the avidin-biotin interaction) for retrieval of peptide and protein hormone receptors, the hormonal properties of a number of avidin-biotinylinsulin and avidin-bioinylcorticotropin complexes were examined.

Avidin–Biotin Technology: Preparation of Avidin Conjugates

2003
The second step required in the application of avidin-biotin technology is to prepare an appropriate avidin-associated probe or probes for the desired application (for general reviews, see refs. 1 and 2). For example, a fluorescent form of avidin can be used for fluorescence microscopy, fluorescence-activated cell sorting, and in some cases, for ...

Preparation of Avidin Conjugates

1996
The high-affinity avidin-biotin system has found applications in different fields of biotechnology, including immunoassays, histochemistry, affinity chromatography, and drug delivery, to name a few. A brief description of avidin and avidin-like molecules, streptavidin, deglycosylated avidin, and NeutraLite avidin is presented in the Chapter 2.

The avidin-biotin complex in immunology

Immunology Today, 1984
The tenacious interaction between the vitamin biotin and theglycoprotein avidin has been applied in many immunological systems for the isolation, localization and visualization of various antigens as well as drug delivery, lymphocyte stimulation and immunoassays.

Genetically engineered avidins and streptavidins

Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2006
Chicken avidin and bacterial streptavidin, (strept)avidin, are proteins widely utilized in a number of applications in life science, ranging from purification and labeling techniques to diagnostics, and from targeted drug delivery to nanotechnology. (Strept)avidin-biotin technology relies on the extremely tight and specific affinity between (strept ...

Towards a synthetic avidin mimic

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2011
A series of streptavidin-mimicking molecularly imprinted polymers has been developed and evaluated for their biotin binding characteristics. A combination of molecular dynamics and NMR spectroscopy was used to examine potential polymer systems, in particular with the functional monomers methacrylic acid and 2-acrylamidopyridine.

Avidin Binds to Condensed Chromatin

Stain Technology, 1977
The protein avidin has been conjugated with fluorescein isothiocyanate and then used to treat cells and chromosome preparations. Fluorescence microscopy reveals that this protein is bound by areas of the specimen containing condensed chromatin.

Avidin-Biotin Immobilisation Systems

1993
Abstract Over the past two decades, the avid in–biotin system has evolved to be an extremely useful tool in the fields of biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology. The extraordinary affinity (Kd ∼ 10−15 M) of avid in (or its bacterial relative, streptavidin) for the vitamin biotin forms the basis for using this system.
