A membrane‐penetrating molecular device composed of triplex containing cholesterol‐modified acyclic L‐threoninol nucleic acid (L‐aTNA) was achieved. This device is applied to a photo‐triggered signal transduction system functioning on giant unilamellar vesicles. Abstract Membrane‐penetrating molecular devices are valuable biological tools.

Polymer-azobenzene complexes: from supramolecular concepts to efficient photoresponsive polymers [PDF]
Linear and nonlinear optical properties of azobenzene-containing polymers give rise to a range of exciting optical phenomena due to the unique response of the azobenzene chromophores to light fields.

Light driven reactions of single physisorbed azobenzenes [PDF]
We present a successful attempt of decoupling a dye molecule from a metallic surface via physisorption for enabling direct photoisomerization. Effective switching between the isomers is possible by exposure to UV light via the rotation pathway.

Liquid Crystalline Elastomers in Soft Robotics: Assessing Promise and Limitations
Liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) are programmable soft materials that undergo large, anisotropic deformation in response to external stimuli. Their molecular alignment encodes directional actuation in a monolithic structure, making them long‐standing candidates for soft robotic systems.

Acid‐ and Nucleophile‐Gated Photoisomerization of Phosphaindirubin
Triply gated isomerization: In polar solvents, a phosphorus‐containing indirubin photoswitch undergoes visible‐light‐driven Z→E isomerization only when protonated, and reverts thermally via nucleophile‐catalyzed back‐isomerization. This three‐way control by light, acid, and nucleophile enables reversible photoisomerization.

Photo-induced deformations in azobenzene-containing side-chain polymers: molecular dynamics study
We perform molecular dynamics simulations of azobenzene containing side-chain liquid crystalline polymer subject to an external model field that mimicks the reorientations of the azobenzenes upon irradiation with polarized light. The smectic phase of the

Electron attachment to trans-azobenzene
The temporary anion states of gas-phase trans-azobenzene are characterised by means of electron transmission spectroscopy (ETS) in the 0-6 eV range. The measured energies of vertical electron attachment are compared with the energies of the pi* virtual orbitals of the neutral molecule supplied by HF (at MP2 optimized geometries) and B3LYP calculations.
