Cyclic Azobenzene‐BODIPY Hybrids
Chemistry – A European Journal, 2023AbstractCyclic azobenzene‐BODIPY hybrids were synthesized via cyclization by 1) acid‐catalysed condensation of azobenzene‐bridged dipyrroles with 3,5‐di‐tert‐butylbenzaldehyde, 2) oxidation with DDQ, and 3) metalation with BF3 ⋅ Et2O. The structures of many cyclic hybrids have been confirmed by single crystal X‐ray analysis.

Photoresponsive Dendritic Azobenzene Peptides
ChemBioChem, 2001Two dendritic peptides containing a branched lysine core and up to eight azobenzene moieties in the periphery were synthesized on solid support employing the omega-amino acid 4-(aminomethyl)phenylazobenzoic acid. With an additional peptidic tail consisting of an oligolysine portion, water solubility was achieved for the dendrimers, which allowed for ...

Mechano-isomerization of azobenzene
Chemical Communications, 2013We show that ultrasound-induced mechanical force isomerizes an azobenzene centered within a poly(methyl acrylate) polymer from cis to trans configuration without cleaving the azo bond. The isomerization rate was not altered by the polarity of the solvent indicating that the isomerization occurs through a non-polar, inversion transition state.

Azobenzene photoswitches for biomolecules
Chemical Society Reviews, 2011The photoisomerization of azobenzene has been known for almost 75 years but only recently has this process been widely applied to biological systems. The central challenge of how to productively couple the isomerization process to a large functional change in a biomolecule has been met in a number of instances and it appears that effective photocontrol

Enthalpies of formation of cis-azobenzene and trans-azobenzene
The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 1992The standard (p° = 0.1 MPa) molar enthalpy of formation of crystalline trans-azobenzene was determined from its enthalpy of combustion in oxygen at 298.15 K measured by static-bomb calorimetry. The enthalpy of isomerization: ΔisomH°m(cr, cis → trans)/(kJ · mol−1) = -(49.1 ± 1.0), was measured by reaction-solution calorimetry: the isomerization was ...
