Snapshot of macroalgae and fish assemblages in temperate reefs in the Southern European Atlantic Ecoregion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Most of the biodiversity studies in the South European Atlantic Shelf ecoregion are limited to shallow subtidal or intertidal habitats, while deeper reef habitats, also of relevant ecological importance, are particularly understudied.

Physicians' prediction for the assessment of atypical pathogens in respiratory tract infections

open access: yesJournal of General and Family Medicine, Volume 21, Issue 6, Page 226-234, November 2020., 2020
Our study indicates that while physicians' predictions were associated with the detection of atypical pathogens, overestimation was observed. The criteria for atypical pneumonia did not perform well for accurately diagnosing atypical pathogen infection in patients with a fever and cough.

Standard Operating Procedure for Real-time PCR Detection and Identification of Bordetella pertussis, B. parapertussis, and B. holmesii using AB7500 v1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The appropriate use of clinically accurate diagnostic tests is essential for the detection of pertussis, a poorly controlled vaccine-preventable disease. The purpose of this study was to estimate the sensitivity and specificity of different diagnostic criteria including culture, multi-target polymerase chain reaction (PCR), anti-pertussis toxin IgG ...

Severe pertussis infection in infants less than 6 months of age: clinical manifestations and molecular characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We conducted a study to determine the main traits of pertussis among unimmunized infants less than 6 months of age. From August 2012 to March 2015, 141 nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPAs) were collected from infants with respiratory symptoms attending 2

Assessment of Pertussis Vaccine Protective Effectiveness in Children in the Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Background. Bordetella pertussis is a human pathogen which causes pertussis, or whooping cough. The diphtheria‐tetanus‐pertussis immunization has significantly reduced the morbidity and mortality of pertussis globally. However, higher prevalence and resurgence of pertussis cases among both vaccinated and unvaccinated people has raised questions on the ...

Bordetella pertussis: An underreported pathogen in pediatric respiratory infections, a prospective cohort study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: The incidence of pertussis has been increasing worldwide. In the Netherlands, the seroprevalence has risen higher than the reported cases, suggesting that laboratory tests for pertussis are considered infrequently and that even more pertussis
