Macrobiota — helminths as active participants and partners of the microbiota in host intestinal homeostasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Important insights have recently been gained in our understanding of the intricate relationship in the intestinal milieu between the vertebrate host mucosal immune response, commensal bacteria, and helminths. Helminths are metazoan worms (macrobiota) and

SUSCEPTIBILITY OF Duponchelia fovealis Zeller (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) TO Bacillus thuringiensis BERLINER (BACILLACEAE)

open access: yesNucleus, 2020
The use of biological control agents come in response to the need for a more developed and sustainable agriculture. Duponchelia fovealis Zeller (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) was reported causing serious problems for strawberry culture in the State of Espirito Santo. Because it is a recent pest, there is no registration of products for its control. Among the

Variety-dependent seed endophytic bacteria enhance stress tolerance to and bioaccumulation of ciprofloxacin in choy sum (Brassica parachinensis)

open access: yesMicrobiome
Background Accumulation of antibiotics in crops threatens human health. However, the mechanisms and effects of microorganisms on the uptake and accumulation of antibiotics in crops remain poorly understood.

Low Abundance Taxa Show Diverse Microbial Symbiotic Interactions With the Freshwater Sponge, Radiospongilla crateriformis, Pre and Post Gemmulation

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
The microbiome profile of freshwater sponges did not broadly change in taxonomy or functional profile based on metatranscriptome analysis prior to and after formation of sponge dormant bodies (gemmules). Results highlight a subset of taxa that likely associate with the sponge host in different ways from facultative to long‐term symbionts.

Viral Diversity of Coastal Restinga Soils From Southern Brazil

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
This study revealed high viral diversity in Restinga soils of southern Brazil, identifying over 6000 species (half unclassified) across 261 families. Dominant families included Mimiviridae, Phycodnaviridae, Peduoviridae and Kyanoviridae. While diversity was consistent among sites, urbanization and landscape isolation influenced viral richness and ...

open access: yesJournal of Bioinformatics and Genomics
Протоковая аденокарцинома поджелудочной железы (PDAC) характеризуется крайне неблагоприятным прогнозом, и внутриопухолевый микробиом рассматривается как один из ключевых факторов его модуляции.

Evaluation of a new high-throughput method for identifying quorum quenching bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Quorum sensing (QS) is a population-dependent mechanism for bacteria to synchronize social behaviors such as secretion of virulence factors. The enzymatic interruption of QS, termed quorum quenching (QQ), has been suggested as a promising alternative ...

Dynamic 16S rRNA Sequencing of the Abdominal Wall Surgical Site Highlights Potential Pathways of Incisional Surgical Site Infection in Colorectal Surgery

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, Volume 96, Issue 4, Page 980-988, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Understanding the microbial changes within the surgical site may enhance our understanding of the origin and subsequent role of microbes in the causation of incisional surgical site infections (SSIs). In this study we used 16S rRNA sequencing to establish the dynamic microbiota of the surgical site in patients undergoing bowel ...

A novel fermentation process for low salt shrimp paste based on microbial diversity and physicochemical properties analysis

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
This study investigated the changes in physicochemical properties and microbial diversity during the fermentation of low-salt shrimp paste with the addition of different carbon sources (glucose and glutinous rice flour). Notably, during fermentation, the

Microbial community composition of transiently wetted Antarctic Dry Valley soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
During the summer months, wet (hyporheic) soils associated with ephemeral streams and lake edges in the Antarctic Dry Valleys (DVs) become hotspots of biological activity and are hypothesized to be an important source of carbon and nitrogen for arid DV ...
