Recursive design in this book is composed of some simple basic steps. They are referred to as “backstepping designs” because they step back toward the control input starting with a scalar equation. This chapter reviews basic backstepping tools for state feedback control and output feedback control. To easily grasp the design and analysis procedures, we

Nonlinear backstepping ship course controller
International Journal of Automation and Computing, 2009A ship, as an object of course control, is characterized by a nonlinear function describing the static maneuvering characteristics. The backstepping method is one of the methods that can be used during the designing process of a nonlinear course controller for ships.

Adaptive backstepping algorithms for a class of nonlinear continuous uncertain processes with disturbances are considered. Sliding mode control using a combined adaptive backstepping sliding mode control algorithm is also studied. The algorithms follow a systematic procedure for the design of adaptive control laws for the output of observable minimum ...

Variable Structure Aadaptive Backstepping Controller
2008 47th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2008This paper presents a Variable Structure Adaptive Backstepping Controller (VS-ABC) for plants with relative degree one, using only input/output measurements. Instead of traditional integral adaptive laws for estimating the plant parameters, switching laws are used to increase robustness to parametric uncertainties and disturbances, as well as, to ...

Modified backstepping control of Quadrotor
International Multi-Conference on Systems, Sygnals & Devices, 2012In this paper, a modified backstepping approach will be developed and applied to control unmanned areial vehicles (UAVs), Quadrotor. In this modified backstepping approach, the number of control parameters is reduced by half compared with the classical back stepping approach used in the literature.

Controlling chaos via backstepping design
Physical Review E, 1997In this Brief Report a method is presented to achieve both stabilization of chaotic motion to a steady state and tracking of any desired trajectory. The proposed approach is based on backstepping design and consists in a recursive procedure that interlaces the choice of a Lyapunov function with the design of feedback control.

Decentralized Neural Backstepping Control
2017This chapter deals with trajectory tracking for a class of discrete-time decentralized nonlinear systems. A high order neural network is used to approximate a decentralized control law designed by the backstepping technique as applied to a block strict feedback form. The neural network learning is performed on-line by extended Kalman filtering.

Backstepping-based adaptive PID control
IEE Proceedings - Control Theory and Applications, 2002This paper addresses analysis and design issues in adaptive PID control for linear second-order minimal phase processes using the backstepping algorithm. The first step consists in adding an integral action to the basic backstepping algorithm to obtain a zero static error..

Adaptive observer backstepping control using neural networks
IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, 2001This paper extends the application of neurocontrol approaches to a new class of nonlinear systems diffeomorphic to output feedback nonlinear systems with unmeasured states. A neural-based adaptive observer is introduced for state estimation as well as system identification using only output measurements during online operation. System identification is

Passive control of backstep flow
Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 1998Abstract The passive control of turbulent flow downstream of a backward-facing step using a permeable reattachment surface is described. An impermeable reattachment surface leads to the upstream convection of rotational fluid and pressure disturbances which is absent when a permeable surface is used.
