Microbial Biosensor for Sensing and Treatment of Intestinal Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The engineered calprotectin biosensor detects gut inflammation, processes the signal through genetic regulation, and responds by expressing the reporter sfGFP and the therapeutic protein secIL10. This dual functionality enables the engineered biosensor not only to sense but also to mitigate gut inflammation, highlighting its potential for disease ...

Nonuniform Donnan Equilibrium within Bacteriophages Packed with Dna [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
The curvature stress of DNA packed inside a phage is balanced against its electrostatic self-interaction. The DNA density is supposed nonuniform and as a result the Donnan effect is also inhomogeneous. The coarse-grained DNA density is a nonlinear function of the DNA radius of curvature at a given position inside the bacteriophage.

A Feedback Loop Between Fatty Acid Metabolism and Epigenetics in Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The current study has profiled the landscape of active enhancers in ccRCC and identified FABP5 as an oncogene. FABP5 is essential for the lipid droplet formation driven by HIFs and critical for H3K27ac and enhancer activity. The study has discovered the function of a feedback loop between epigenetics and lipid metabolism regulated by FABP5 in ccRCC ...

Metabolic characteristics and genomic epidemiology of Escherichia coli serogroup O145 : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Microbiology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are a global public health concern, and can cause severe human disease. Ruminants are asymptomatic reservoirs of STEC, shedding this pathogen via their faeces.

Studies of bacteriophages induced from Streptococcus cremoris strain R1 : is R1 a double Lysogen? : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Genetics at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Early studies on Streptococcus cremoris strain R₁ suggested that it was polylysogenic. Later, it was reported that its induced lysates contained bacteriophages (phages) of two types which were believed to differ in their morphology, buoyant densities ...

A suggested classification for two groups of Campylobacter myoviruses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Most Campylobacter bacteriophages isolated to date have long contractile tails and belong to the family Myoviridae. Based on their morphology, genome size and endonuclease restriction profile, Campylobacter phages were originally divided into three ...

Distinct Genomic Features Characterize Two Clades of Corynebacterium diphtheriae: Proposal of Corynebacterium diphtheriae Subsp. diphtheriae Subsp. nov. and Corynebacterium diphtheriae Subsp. lausannense Subsp. nov.

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Corynebacterium diphtheriae is the etiological agent of diphtheria, a disease caused by the presence of the diphtheria toxin. However, an increasing number of records report non-toxigenic C. diphtheriae infections. Here, a C.

The bacteriophage carrier state of Campylobacter jejuni features changes in host non-coding RNAs and the acquisition of new host-derived CRISPR spacer sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Incorporation of self-derived CRISPR DNA protospacers in Campylobacter jejuni PT14 occurs in the presence of bacteriophages encoding a CRISPR-like Cas4 protein.
