Current Ethanol Production Requirements for the Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae
An increase in global energy demand has caused oil prices to reach record levels in recent times. High oil prices together with concerns over CO2 emissions have resulted in renewed interest in renewable energy. Nowadays, ethanol is the principal renewable biofuel.

ABSTRACT Secondary forests are increasingly important components of human‐modified landscapes in the tropics. Successional pathways, however, can vary enormously across and within landscapes, with divergent regrowth rates, vegetation structure and species composition.

Bactris gasipaes Kunth var. gasipaes complete chloroplast genome and phylogenetic analysis
Bactris gasipaes var. gasipaes (Arecaceae, Palmae) is an economically and socially important plant species for populations across tropical South and Central America. It has been domesticated from its wild variety, B. gasipaes var. chichagui, since pre-Columbian times. In this study, we sequenced the complete chloroplast genome of the cultivated variety,

Ecological legacies of past human activities in Amazonian forests
Summary In Amazonia, human activities that occurred hundreds of years ago in the pre‐European era can leave long‐lasting effects on the forests – termed ecological legacies. These legacies include the intentional or nonintentional enrichment or depletion of certain species.

Enraizamento de Perfilhos de Pupunheira (Bactris gasipaes)
This paper aims to aprimorate the technic of offshots rooting and preparing of offshoots and verify the effect of progenies and substrates on the rooting of peach palm (Bactris gasipaes Kunth. var. gasipaes Henderson) offshots. Average of survival varying from 26.6 % to 60 %, of rooting from 3.3 % to 10 %.

Conservation and use of genetic resources of underutilized crops in the Americas - A continental analysis [PDF]
Latin America is home to dramatically diverse agroecological regions which harbor a high concentration of underutilized plant species, whose genetic resources hold the potential to address challenges such as sustainable agricultural development, food ...

Long‐term ecological legacies in western Amazonia
We documented successional dynamics in a lowland Amazonian forest setting for hundreds of years following the cessation of pre‐Columbian disturbance. We found no evidence of persistent enrichment or depletion of intentionally altered taxa (i.e. direct legacy effects) but did find evidence of indirect legacy effects that have persisted to the modern day.
