Busemann Functions and Barrier Functions [PDF]
We show that Busemann functions on a smooth, non-compact, complete, boundaryless, connected Riemannian manifold are viscosity solutions with respect to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation determined by the Riemannian metric and consequently they are locally semi-concave with linear modulus.

The silenced HMR domain is restricted from spreading by barrier elements, and the right barrier is a unique t-RNA(THR) gene. We show that sequences immediately flanking the silenced domain were enriched in acetylated, but not methylated, histones, whereas the barrier element was associated with a nucleosome-free region.

Mechanisms of Intestinal Epithelial Barrier Dysfunction by Adherent-Invasive Escherichia coli. [PDF]
Pathobiont expansion, such as that of adherent-invasive Escherichia coli (AIEC), is an emerging factor associated with inflammatory bowel disease. The intestinal epithelial barrier is the first line of defense against these pathogens.

The endothelial barrier in all organ beds allows the free exchange of water, but is restrictive to varying degrees to the transport of solutes such as albumin. For example, in the brain microvessels, the endothelial barrier restricts the transport of protein, whereas in fenestrated and continuous endothelial cells of the renal and lung endothelial ...

(1) Background: Under practical conditions, newly hatched chicks were usually withheld feed and water for 48 to 72 h. It was shown that early feeding after hatch promoted gastrointestinal development of broiler chicks.

Positive effects of selenized-oligochitosan on zearalenone-induced intestinal dysfunction in piglets
This paper assessed the positive effects of selenized-oligochitosan (SOC) on zearalenone(ZEN)-induced intestinal dysfunction in piglets. Sixty piglets were randomly divided into 4 groups.

Intestinal Barrier Function in Gluten-Related Disorders [PDF]
Gluten-related disorders include distinct disease entities, namely celiac disease, wheat-associated allergy and non-celiac gluten/wheat sensitivity. Despite having in common the contact of the gastrointestinal mucosa with components of wheat and other ...
