Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Barriers to Professional Mental Health Help-Seeking Among Chinese Adults: A Systematic Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2020
BackgroundA large number of Chinese suffer from common mental disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder), but treatment seeking is typically low in this population. It is unclear what barriers influence professional

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Intratympanic dexamethasone microcrystals/lidocaine‐loaded PLGA non‐spherical microparticles for local drug delivery to the inner ear

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine
Background Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), often associated with tinnitus, significantly impacts individuals' quality of life. Current treatments, such as free drugs via intravenous or intratympanic (IT) administration of dexamethasone (DEX ...

Performance of profiled single noise barriers covered with quadratic residue diffusers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The paper describes an investigation about the acoustic performance of noise barriers with quadratic residue diffuser (QRD) tops, and with T-, Arrow-, Cylindrical and Y-shape profiles.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Tunnelling Through Two Barriers

open access: yes, 2004
Recent studies of the tunnelling through two opaque barriers claim that the transit time is independent of the barrier widths and of the separation distance between the barriers.
