Maternal education and child immunization: the mediating roles of maternal literacy and socioeconomic status

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2017
Introduction: previous studies in Nigeria have documented significant association between maternal education and child immunization. However, little is known about the pathway through which maternal education improves immunization uptake. This study aims

Energy barriers for diffusion on stepped Rh(111) surfaces

open access: yes, 1999
Energy barriers for different moves of a single Rh adatom in the vicinity of steps on Rh(111) surface are studied with molecular statics. Interatomic interactions are modeled by the semi-empirical many-body Rosato-Guillope-Legrand potential. We calculate

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Intratympanic dexamethasone microcrystal-loaded porous PLGA microspheres containing lipoic acid for combined delivery to the inner ear

open access: yesJournal of Otology
Objective To develop a sustained-release codelivery system for intratympanic administration of dexamethasone (DEX) and lipoic acid (LA). Methods DEX microcrystals (MCs) were prepared via precipitation, while LA-loaded porous PLGA microspheres (LPMPs ...

Tumor and germline testing with next generation sequencing in epithelial ovarian cancer: a prospective paired comparison using an 18‐gene panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Genetic testing in epithelial ovarian cancer includes both germline and tumor‐testing. This approach often duplicates resources. The current prospective study assessed the feasibility of tumor‐first multigene testing by comparing tumor tissue with germline testing of peripheral blood using an 18‐gene NGS panel in 106 patients.
