Transmission electron microscopy analysis of epithelial basement membrane repair in rabbit corneas with haze.

open access: yesInvestigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, 2013
PURPOSE To assess the ultrastructure of the epithelial basement membrane using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in rabbit corneas with and without subepithelial stroma opacity (haze). METHODS Two groups of eight rabbits each were included in this

ITGAM-mediated macrophages contribute to basement membrane damage in diabetic nephropathy and atherosclerosis

open access: yesBMC Nephrology
Background Diabetic nephropathy (DN) and atherosclerosis (AS) are prevalent and severe complications associated with diabetes, exhibiting lesions in the basement membrane, an essential component found within the glomerulus, tubules, and arteries.

Biomimetic Scaffolds Enhance iPSC Astrocyte Progenitor Angiogenic, Immunomodulatory, and Neurotrophic Capacity in a Stiffness and Matrix‐Dependent Manner for Spinal Cord Repair Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Through tuning biomimetic scaffold stiffness and matrix composition the reparative capacity of astrocyte progenitors is enhanced. Soft, collagen‐IV/fibronectin‐functionalized scaffolds promote progenitor growth while improving angiogenic, immunomodulatory, and neurotrophic capacity in a stiffness and matrix‐dependent manner, demonstrating the impact of

Superficial dermal fibroblasts enhance basement membrane and epidermal barrier formation in tissue-engineered skin: implications for treatment of skin basement membrane disorders.

open access: yesTissue Engineering. Part A, 2013
Basement membrane is a highly specialized structure that binds the dermis and the epidermis of the skin, and is mainly composed of laminins, nidogen, collagen types IV and VII, and the proteoglycans, collagen type XVIII and perlecan, all of which play ...

The basement membrane zone of the nail

open access: yesBritish Journal of Dermatology, 2006
The anatomy of the epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissues of the nail apparatus is distinct from that of non-appendageal skin. Apart from the demonstration of the longitudinal configuration of the dermal-epidermal junction of the nail bed, there have been no studies of the composition of the basement membrane zone of the nail apparatus. We obtained

Pathological MAPK activation–mediated lymphatic basement membrane disruption causes lymphangiectasia that is treatable with ravoxertinib

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2022
Lymphangiectasia, an anomalous dilation of lymphatic vessels first described in the 17th century, is frequently associated with chylous effusion, respiratory failure, and high mortality in young patients, yet the underlying molecular pathogenesis and ...

Engineering CAR‐T Therapeutics for Enhanced Solid Tumor Targeting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
CART cell therapy has proven effective for blood cancers but struggles with solid tumors due to diverse antigens and complex environments. Recent efforts focus on improving CAR design and validation platforms. Advances in protein engineering, machine learning, and organoid systems aim to enhance CAR‐T therapy against solid tumors.

Biomimetic Dynamics of Nanoscale Groove and Ridge Topography for Stem Cell Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic nanoscale groove‐ridge structures are engineered by flexibly conjugating RGD‐magnetic nanoparticles to nanogroove templates with variable groove widths at the molecular scale. Magnetic control enables cyclic switching between nanoscale groove and ridge states that modulates ligand accessibility of cellular integrins.

Multi‐omics analyses reveal the interaction between colonic microbiota and host in Min and Yorkshire pigs

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView., 2023
In the present study, we created the weight gain models with Min and Yorkshire pigs and conducted the metagenomics and metabolomics of colon contents and transcriptomics of colon tissue. Further, we revealed the characteristics and functions of the colonic microbiota in Min and Yorkshire pigs and analyzed their interactions with the host. Overall, this
