The impact of drying methods on quality parameters of purple basil leaves

Journal of Food Processing and Preservation, 2021
Purple basil leaves dried with natural drying, which was the traditional method, convective drying at 50celcius, which was the most common method, and microwave drying at 200, 600, and 1,000 W, which were low, medium, and high powers. The drying processes lasted 4,320, 195, 48, 25, and 14 min for natural, 50celcius, 200, 600, and 1,000 W, respectively.

Green Synthesis and Characterization of Iron Nanoparticles from Holy Basil Leaves and Mint Leaves

Key Engineering Materials, 2016
In this study, Iron nanoparticles (FeNPs) were synthesized by green chemical method. A reducing and stabilizing agent from plant were used instead of toxic chemical reagent. It was observed that FeNPs was obtained at room temperature (25-35 °C) using bioreducing agent without voltammetric method.

Chicoric acid found in basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) leaves

Food Chemistry, 2009
This is the first report to identify the presence of chicoric acid (cichoric acid; also known as dicaffeoyltartaric acid, which is a caffeic acid derivatized with tartaric acid) in basil leaves. Rosmarinic acid, chicoric acid and caftaric acid (in the order of most abundant to least; all derivatives of caffeic acid) were identified in fresh basil ...

Phenylpropanoid Biosynthesis in Leaves and Glandular Trichomes of Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.)

2010
Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) essential oil phenylpropenes are synthesized and accumulate in peltate glandular trichomes and their content and composition depend on plant developmental stage. Studies on gene expression and enzymatic activity indicate that the phenylpropene biosynthetic genes are developmentally regulated.

Terpene degradation and extraction from basil and oregano leaves using subcritical water

Journal of Chromatography A, 2007
In the first part of this study, the stability of five terpenes (alpha-pinene, limonene, camphor, citronellol, and carvacrol) under subcritical water conditions was investigated. The stability studies were carried out at four different temperatures (100, 150, 200, and 250 degrees C) with two different heating times (30 and 300 min).

Salinity from NaCl changes the nutrient and polyphenolic composition of basil leaves

Industrial Crops and Products, 2019
Abstract Decreasing availability and rising costs of high quality water for irrigation, results in more frequent use of saline water sources in many crop production systems. The effect of salinity on biomass yield has been the focus of most salinity studies with basil, and a few studies have reported how salinity influences basil polyphenolic ...

The biologically active substances in the different cultivars of basil leaves

2018
Basil (Ocimum basilicum L.) belongs to Lamiaceae family, and it is highly aromatic with pleasant taste used mostly in culinary. Basil is an aromatic herb which has a high value and is of high demand in the world. The influence of the cultivars on the accumulation of biologically active substances with antioxidant properties was studied for five ...
