New Integrative Vectors Increase Agrobacterium rhizogenes Transformation and Help Characterise Roles for Soybean GmTML Gene Family Members

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hairy‐root transformation is widely used to generate transgenic plant roots for genetic functional characterisation studies. However, transformation efficiency can be limited, largely due to the use of binary vectors. Here, we report on the development of novel integrative vectors that significantly increase the transformation efficiency of ...

Soybean Inositol Polyphosphate 5‐Phosphatase 8 Confers Salt Tolerance by Reducing Sodium Influx Through Inositol 1,4,5‐Trisphosphate Signalling

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Evidence suggests that the metabolism of inositol and its derivatives may be involved in various biological processes including salt tolerance, but there has been limited understanding. Ectopic expression of Gs5PTase8, an inositol polyphosphate 5‐phosphatase cloned from wild soybean (Glycine soja), significantly enhanced salt tolerance in ...

Plant and soil biodiversity reveals past and potential future states of naturally regenerating and planted native forests

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Forest restoration can be achieved by promoting natural regeneration or planting tree seedlings, but the relative benefits of these widely used approaches are questioned. Soil communities may influence restoration outcomes but are usually ignored by monitoring schemes.

Multifaceted roles of BBX transcription factors: impacts on key agronomical traits and environmental resilience

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 2, Page 762-787, April 2026.
Summary B‐box (BBX) proteins were initially characterized as transcription factors connecting light signaling to the regulation of flowering time and seedling photomorphogenesis. However, over the last decade, increasing evidence has shown that they integrate light and hormone signaling, modulating multiple physiological processes during plant life. In

Genome‐Wide Identification and Expression Analysis of Pathogenesis‐Related Protein 1 in Sweet Potato and Its Two Relatives

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
Pathogenesis‐related Protein 1 (PR1) is a core component of plant innate immunity. We identified 33, 50, and 36 PR1 genes in Ipomoea batatas, Ipomoea trifida, and Ipomoea triloba. Phylogenetic analysis clustered them into 5 groups. Two diploid wild species show high flower/flower‐buds expression, and most sweet potato PR1s are downregulated under ...

Enhancing polyphenol synthesis and antioxidant activity in Camellia sinensis using shikimic and salicylic acids

open access: yesJSFA reports, Volume 6, Issue 3, Page 73-87, March 2026.
Abstract Background Camellia sinensis, widely consumed as tea, is the second most popular beverage globally and is valued for its health benefits. However, environmental stressors pose a significant challenge to the tea industry. This study investigates the potential of shikimic acid (ShA) and its derivative, salicylic acid (SA), as inducers to enhance

Neuroprotective Effect of Sweet Potato Petiole and Leaf Dry‐Powder in a Gerbil Model of Transient Cerebral Ischaemia

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
Continuous intake of sweet potato petiole and leaf, rich in polyphenols, demonstrated the neuroprotective effects in a gerbil model of transient cerebral ischaemia. Pre‐ischaemic feeding of a diet containing sweet potato petiole and leaf tended to be more effective than post‐ischaemic feeding.

Avaliação da eficácia de taboa (Typha domingensis Pers.) e batata-de-purga [Operculina hamiltonii (G. Don) D.F. Austin & Staples] in natura sobre nematóides gastrintestinais de caprinos, naturalmente infectados, em clima semi-árido Evaluation of the effectiveness of "taboa" (Typha domingensis Pers.) and "batata-de-purga" [Operculina hamiltonii (G. Don) D.F. Austin & Staples] in natura on gastrointestinal nematodes of goats, naturally infected, in the semi-arid region
