Distillery Stillage as a New Substrate for Lactic Acid Production in Batch and Fed-batch Fermentation

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2013
Lactic acid and biomass production on distillery stillage - a by-product of bioethanol industry - was studied in this paper. Batch and fed-batch fermentation strategies for lactic acid production on distillery stillage were performed by Lactobacillus ...

Levan Production in Shake Flask and Fermenter Influence of Feeding Strategy on Levan Yield and Molecular Weight Distribution [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2023
Effect of feeding strategy on levan production was studied in a shake flask and a 5 L lab scale fermenter. In a shake flask, levan specific substrate yield (YP/S) increased from 0.35 g levan/g sucrose to 0.48 g levan/g sucrose with repeated batch feeding.

Novel bioreactor internals for the cultivation of spore‐forming fungi in pellet form

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, 2022
This study introduced an automated long‐term fermentation process for fungals grown in pellet form. The goal was to reduce the overgrowth of bioreactor internals and sensors while better rheological properties in the fermentation broth, such as oxygen ...

Adaptive Control of CO2 Production during Milk Fermentation in a Batch Bioreactor

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
The basic characteristic of batch bioreactors is their inability to inflow or outflow the substances during the fermentation process. This follows in the simple construction and maintenance, which is the significant advantage of batch bioreactors ...

Improvement of ethanol production from sweet sorghum juice under batch and fed-batch fermentations: Effects of sugar levels, nitrogen supplementation, and feeding regimes

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Biotechnology, 2017
Background: Fermentation process development has been very important for efficient ethanol production. Improvement of ethanol production efficiency from sweet sorghum juice (SSJ) under normal gravity (NG, 160 g/L of sugar), high gravity (HG, 200 and 240 ...

Improved Ethanol Production Based on High Solids Fed-Batch Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation with Alkali-Pretreated Sugarcane Bagasse

open access: yesBioResources, 2016
Alkali-pretreated sugarcane bagasse fiber was subjected to fed-batch simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) with a pre-hydrolysis process to increase the solids loading and produce a high concentration of ethanol.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
