Disentangling Bulk and Surface Contributions to Charge and Discharge Fading in High‐Voltage LiCoO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐voltage operation of LiCoO2 accelerates capacity fading through bulk and surface degradation. By introducing a LiTaO3 coating to selectively suppress surface degradation, bulk and surface contributions to charge and discharge fading are decoupled.

Novel Prospects and Possibilities in Additive Manufacturing of Ceramics by means of Direct Inkjet Printing

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2014
Direct inkjet printing is a versatile additive manufacturing technology to produce complex three-dimensional components from ceramic suspensions. By successive printing of cross-sections, the sample is built up layer by layer. The aim of this paper is to

Motion of Grinding Media in Axial Direction and its Effect on Comminution in an Agitation Bead Mill [Translated]†

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
Grinding tests were carried out using a model agitation bead mill with a single disc. Four different types of disc were used to examine the effect of the motion of the grinding media in the axial direction.

The Venetian Bead Story [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
With the possible exception of the Egyptian and Syrian beadmakers of Roman times, no glass bead producers have had as much influence on their contemporaries as those of Venice.

Tracking Battery Microstructural Degradation Through Directional Thermal Transport Signatures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In lithium‐ion batteries, heat conduction varies between the through‐plane and in‐plane directions because of the cell's layered structure. Therefore, cell degradation influences thermal conductivity in each direction uniquely due to detailed microstructural and compositional changes.

CO2‐to‐CO Conversion in a Gas‐Fed, Zero‐Gap, PEM Electrolyzer Enabled by Polycations and Nitrogen‐Doped Carbon‐Supported Cobalt Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A gas‐fed, zero‐gap, PEM CO2 electrolyzer is realized by incorporating PDDA+ ions onto the carbonaceous Co/N‐C electrocatalyst, with gaseous H2 and CO2 fed into the anode and cathode, respectively. Operating without an aqueous electrolyte, the system sustains a peak FECO of 65.1% at 100 mA cm−2. ABSTRACT Electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction (ECO2R)

Upcycling Keratin‐Based Textile Waste Into High‐Performance Hybrid Fibers Via Tuning the Interfacial Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Keratin recovered from animal‐hair textile waste is fractionated and blended with cellulose to produce continuously spun hybrid fibers. Selecting the high‐molecular‐weight keratin fraction enables 30 wt.% keratin incorporation while maintaining high strength in dry and wet states.

Dispersion of Agglomerated Nanoparticles by Fine Beads Mill

open access: yesJournal of the Society of Powder Technology, Japan, 2004
In a dispersion of agglomerated nanoparticle to primary particles by a beads mill, large-sized beads give excess impulsive power to the agglomerated nanoparticles, resulting in crushing and reagglomeration of particles. In this study, a bead mill with fine-sized beads (down to 0.03mm) was developed and the dispersion performance for agglomerated ...

Chinese Bead Curtains, Past and Present [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Relatively little is known about how beads were combined to form larger structures in China. To address this situation, this paper focuses on Chinese bead curtains. Adopting an approach that is broad rather than deep and empirical rather than theoretical,
