Conventional and Non-Conventional Yeasts in Beer Production

open access: yesFermentation, 2018
The quality of beer relies on the activity of fermenting yeasts, not only for their good fermentation yield-efficiency, but also for their influence on beer aroma, since most of the aromatic compounds are intermediate metabolites and by-products of yeast

Xerogel Films with Ordered Silica Nanorods Enable Fine‐Tuned Polarized Structural Colors in Modular Nanocomposite Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Xerogel films with aligned silica nanorods are prepared through a facile stretching and air‐drying approach. By controlling the alignment of silica nanorods and configuring multilayer film stacks, vibrant and tunable polarized structural colors with hues including green and orange are achieved.

Effects on beer attribute preferences of consumers' attitudes towards sustainability: The case of craft beer and beer packaging

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
Beer consumers are becoming increasingly discerning about the products they buy, and the value they attach to sustainable brewing is growing. The aim of this research was to analyse how consumers' attitudes towards sustainability influence their ...

Application of Non-Saccharomyces Yeasts Isolated from Kombucha in the Production of Alcohol-Free Beer

open access: yesFermentation, 2018
Alcohol-free beer (AFB) is no longer just a niche product in the beer market. For brewers, this product category offers economic benefits in the form of a growing market and often a lower tax burden and enables brewers to extend their product portfolio ...

High‐Transmission Mid‐Infrared Bandpass Filters using Hybrid Metal‐Dielectric Metasurfaces for CO2 Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 8, March 13, 2025.
This article presents a hybrid metal‐dielectric metasurface in transmission mode for mid‐infrared (MIR) spectroscopy. Composed of germanium on aluminium cylinders atop a calcium fluoride substrate, the metasurface achieves 80% transmission efficiency at λ = 2.6 µm with a narrow full‐width‐half‐maximum of 0.4 µm.

Demonstration of a Graphene Adjustable‐Barriers Phototransistor with Tunable Ultra‐High Responsivity

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A novel graphene‐based phototransistor with a tunable ultra‐high responsivity of 1.7 x 107 AW−1 has been demonstrated. Due to the selected material combination of amorphous silicon, graphene and n‐germanium, the device is potentially capable of dual‐band detection in the VIS‐IR range.
