In the 1990s, the manufacturing sector was stagnant in most sub-Saharan African countries. However, since 2000, manufacturing industry has been stimulated by several factors, including changes in the economic environment, increase in domestic consumption, improvements in the investment climate and an increase in foreign direct investment.
