Electronic Smoking Devices Among University Students: Usage Patterns and Chemical Composition of Inhaled Substances

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 7, Issue 1, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the prevalence of electronic smoking device (ESD) use and its associated behavioural and chemical risks among university students in Bahia, Brazil. A cross‐sectional survey was conducted with 355 students from public and private institutions through an online questionnaire between April and May 2023. Among participants,

Studies in 3-Hydroxy Coumarins: Part II. Synthesis of 3-Hydroxy Pyrano (2, 3-h) Benzopyran and 3-Hydroxy Pyrano (3, 2-g) Benzopyran Derivatives

open access: yes, 1971
7-Hydroxy-8-formyl-4-methylcoumarin when condensed with aeetylglycine in presence of sodium acetate and acetic anhydride, gave 3-acetamido-8-methyl-2-6-dioxo-2H,6H-pyrano(2,3-h)benzopyran, which when refluxed with 70% sulphuric acid gave 3-amino ...

Formation and Characterization of Insoluble Anthocyanins‐λ‐carrageenan Biopolyelectrolyte Complexes: Structural Morphology, Thermal Stability, and Release Dynamics

open access: yesChemFoodChem, Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2026.
Insoluble biopolyelectrolyte complexes formed between blackberry anthocyanins and λ‐carrageenan are investigated. Optimal complexation occurs at low carrageenan ratios and acidic pH, producing porous hydrogel‐like structures with enhanced thermal stability.

Potential of Chinese Mandarin Peel and Leaf (Agricultural Byproducts) as Candidate Ingredients for Functional Foods and Feeds

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Mandarin peel (with higher contents of the key bioactive compounds hesperidin, nobiletin, and tangeretin) and leaf (with richer chemical diversity) are potential candidate ingredients for functional foods and feeds. The key bioactive compounds (hesperidin, nobiletin, and tangeretin) have optimal conditions for daily consumption, achieved through three ...

Synthesis, Photophysical Characterization, and Anticancer Evaluation of Novel Furochromene Derivatives

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
This is the first study on novel furochromene derivatives. A series of novel furochromen derivatives, namely (2E)‐1‐(6‐hydroxy‐4,7‐dimethoxy‐1‐benzofuran‐5‐yl)‐3‐arylprop‐2‐en‐1‐ones 4a–c, were synthesized via the Knoevenagel condensation of 6‐hydroxy‐4,7‐dimethoxybenzofuran‐5‐ylethanone 2 with various aromatic aldehydes.

An Efficient and Rapid Synthetic Route to Biologically Interesting Pyranochalcone Natural Products

open access: yesMolecules, 2007
An efficient and concise total synthesis of naturally occurring pyranochalcones was achieved from readily available 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone and 2,4-dihydroxy-6- methoxyacetophenone. The key steps in the synthetic strategy were ethylenediamine diacetate-

Thermally Bistable Stiff Stilbene Photoswitches and Polymer Applications

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, Volume 26, Issue 6, June 2026.
Thermally stable photoswitches offer new opportunities for controlling polymer structures and functions under nonequilibrium conditions. This Personal Account highlights stiff stilbene (SS) and sterically hindered stiff stilbene (HSS) photoswitches, which combine large structural changes with exceptional thermal bistability.

Photoswitchable Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 43, 29 May 2026.
A conductive material where the conductivity can be modulated remotely by irradiation with light is presented. It is based on films of conductive metal–organic framework type Cu3(HHTP)2 with embedded photochromic molecules such as azobenzene, diarylethene, spiropyran, and hexaarylbiimidazole in the pores.

Light‐Programmable Interfaces: From Molecular Photoswitching to Adaptive Membrane Separations

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 10, 19 May 2026.
This review advances an interface‐centered framework for light‐responsive membranes, linking molecular photoswitches (azobenzene (AZO), spiropyran (SP), diarylethene (DAE), donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASA), photoacid) to integration strategies in polymeric, porous, self‐assembled, and mixed‐matrix systems.
