Recreational Drug Use at a Music Festival: A Dual Approach Using Hair Biomarkers Analysis and Participant Self‐Reported Drug Use

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Combined self‐report and hair analysis in festival attendees (n = 249) revealed substantial discrepancies in drug use reporting, particularly for stimulants and dissociatives. This integrated approach enhances detection of poly‐drug use and provides a more reliable basis for monitoring and harm‐reduction strategies.

Assignments of (1)H and (13)C NMR spectral data for benzoylecgonine, a cocaine metabolite

open access: yes, 2015
The complete assignment of the (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra of benzoylecgonine, a cocaine metabolite, was performed, with the aid of some 2D experiments such as gCOSY and gHSQC ...

Mining chemical information in Swedish wastewaters for simultaneous assessment of population consumption, treatment efficiency and environmental discharge of illicit drugs

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Consumption of illicit drugs poses health risks to the public and environment. Knowledge on their usage helps better implementations of intervention strategies to reduce drug-related harms in the society and also policies to limit their releases as ...

Determination of Prenatal Substance Exposure Using Meconium and Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesToxics, 2022
The aim of this study was to develop and to validate a toxicological untargeted screening relying on LC-HRMS in meconium including the detection of the four main classes of drugs of abuse (DoA; amphetamines, cannabinoids, opioids and cocaine). The method

Evaluation of illicit drug contaminants in seized cannabis in Arizona and California, 2023–2024

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite public health concerns, fentanyl, cocaine, and other illicit drug contaminants remain largely understudied in unregulated cannabis. Here, we developed an analytical method to quantify a panel of common illicit drugs in cannabis and tested the law enforcement seizures in Arizona and California in evaluation of the illicit drug ...

Investigation of degradation products of cocaine and benzoylecgonine in the aquatic environment [PDF]

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment, 2013
In this work, ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled to a hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer (QTOF MS) has allowed the discovery and elucidation of degradation products of cocaine and its main metabolite benzoylecgonine (BE) in water.

High temporal resolution monitoring of illicit drug consumption across England via wastewater analysis

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim To monitor community‐level consumption of 20 illicit drugs across urban areas of England using wastewater‐based epidemiology (WBE) surveillance at high temporal resolution. Design, setting, cases This study was conducted over a 12‐month period in 2022 sampling 24‐hour composite wastewater samples at 15 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs ...

Chemical Straightening as a Source of Analytical Variability in Hair Testing: A Dual‐Analyte Case Report

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 771-776, June 2026.
Permanent chemical hair straightening was associated with analyte‐dependent changes in hair concentrations, showing increased endogenous GHB levels and decreased alprazolam concentrations after treatment. These results suggest that chemical hair straightening procedures may influence hair concentrations and should be considered when interpreting hair ...

Fatal cocaine intoxication in a body packer [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2016
Introduction. ‘Body packer’ syndrome with severe intoxication or sudden death may happen in persons who smuggle drugs in their body cavities. In case of lethal outcome when carrying cocaine, it is important, but sometimes difficult to determine ...
