Palladium-Catalyzed Benzylation of Heterocyclic Aromatic Compounds
Organic Letters, 2009Broadly applicable palladium-catalyzed heteroarene benzylation reactions are described with a focus on the most challenging heterocyclic classes under traditional benzylation techniques such as sulfur-containing heterocycles and those bearing functional groups that would be incompatible with reactions requiring Lewis acids and/or strong bases.

Comparative catalytic liquid-phase benzylation of aromatic compouds (e.g., benzene and ethylbenzene) to diphenylmethane (DPM) derivatives with benzyl alcohol (BnOH) was investigated over various catalysts like zeolite (HSZ 600 mordenite, CBV 20A mordenite, H-beta zeolites with Si/Al ratios of 10.8 and 35.8, respectively) and nano-structured inorganic ...

N-Benzyl and O-Benzyl Compounds: A New Group of Synthetic Auxin Biomimetics
Doklady Biological Sciences, 2003The structural and topochemical similarity between natural (Scheme 1, compounds A – E ) and synthetic (Scheme 1, compounds F and G ) auxins is that their molecules include a system of aromatic rings, which binds to a polar group (carboxyl, amide group, nitrile, or hydroxyl) through a methylene, dimethylene, trimethylene, or oxalkylene bridge [1–4]. The

Abstract The catalytic performance of Perfluorosulfonic acid resin (PFSA), a solid superacid, was studied in the catalytic benzylation of 1,3‐dicarbonyl compounds with benzylic alcohols. The PFSA‐catalyzed reactions could proceed smoothly to provide the products under solvent‐free conditions or in toluene and dichloromethane, which ...

Benzylation of Aromatic Compounds with Different Crystallites of MgO
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2003Magnesium oxide nanocrystals are shown to be selective catalysts for the benzylation of aromatics with benzyl chloride, in the order xylene > toluene >> benzene. Normal polycrystalline MgO is not as effective as the nanomaterials. However, at the highest surface area, normally most reactive MgO samples (aerogel prepared AP-MgO) were poorer catalysts ...

A General Preparation of Polyfunctional Benzylic Zinc Organometallic Compounds
Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2008AbstractA new method for the preparation of highly functionalized benzylic zinc chlorides by the direct insertion of zinc dust into the corresponding benzylic chlorides in the presence of LiCl is described without the formation of homocoupling products (<5 %).
