Production of cellulases by fungal cultures isolated from forest litter soil

open access: yesAnnals of Forest Research, 2012
The aims of this study were the isolation and screening of fungal cultures from forest litter soil for cellulases production. In the present study, four fungal cultures were isolated and identified.

Anacardium occidentale Bark as an Antidiabetic Agent

open access: yesPlants, 2022
Anacardium occidentale L. is used throughout the world to treat type 2 diabetes. In Portugal, a traditional herbal preparation made with stem bark of this species (AoBTHP) has been used for more than 30 years to treat this pathology.

Genome sequence of the H2-producing Clostridium beijerinckii strain Br21 isolated from a sugarcane vinasse treatment plant

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2019
We report on the nearly complete genome sequence of Clostridium beijerinckii strain Br21, formerly isolated from a sugarcarne vinasse wastewater treatment plant. The resulting genome is ca. 5.9 Mbp in length and resembles the size of previously published

Control of beta-glucosidase synthesis in Mucor racemosus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1977
The beta-glucosidase of Mucor racemosus was shown to be synthesized when the organism was grown in the presence of such diverse carbon sources as glycerol, lactate, xylose, ribose, alpha-methylglucoside, alpha-phenylglucoside, maltose, and cellobiose. Enzyme synthesis was strongly repressed in the presence of hexoses.

Association of fecal microbial diversity and taxonomy with selected enzymatic functions. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Few microbial functions have been compared to a comprehensive survey of the human fecal microbiome. We evaluated determinants of fecal microbial β-glucuronidase and β-glucosidase activities, focusing especially on associations with microbial alpha and ...

Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of

beta-Glucocerebrosidase activity in murine epidermis: characterization and localization in relation to differentiation.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1992
The intercellular lipids of the stratum corneum, which are highly enriched in ceramides, are critical for the mammalian epidermal permeability barrier. During the terminal stages of epidermal differentiation, the glucosylceramide content is dramatically ...
