Pan-genomic analysis to redefine species and subspecies based on quantum discontinuous variation: the Klebsiella paradigm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceBackground: Various methods are currently used to define species and are based on the phylogenetic marker 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequence, DNA-DNA hybridization and DNA GC content.

Genomics and transcriptomics of Xanthomonas campestris species challenge the concept of core type III effectome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The bacterial species Xanthomonas campestris infects a wide range of Brassicaceae. Specific pathovars of this species cause black rot (pv. campestris), bacterial blight of stock (pv. incanae) or bacterial leaf spot (pv. raphani).

Human glucocerebrosidase mediates formation of xylosyl-cholesterol by beta-xylosidase and transxylosidase reactions

open access: yes, 2021
Deficiency of glucocerebrosidase (GBA), a lysosomal beta-glucosidase, causes Gaucher disease. The enzyme hydrolyzes beta-glucosidic substrates and transglucosylates cholesterol to cholesterol-p-glucoside. Here we show that recombinant human GBA also cleaves beta-xylosides and transxylosylates cholesterol.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS AND FUTURE PROSPECTS OF MICROBIAL XYLANASES: A REVIEW [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Microbial enzymes such as xylanases enable new technologies for industrial processes. Xylanases (xylanolytic enzyme) hydrolyze complex polysaccharides like xylan.

Microbial β-Glucosidase: sources, production and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cellulose is the most abundant biopolymer in biosphere and the major constituent of plant biomass. Cellulose polymer is made up of β-glucose units linked by β-glucosidic bonds. Cellulase is an enzymatic system that catalyzes the hydrolysis of cellulose

Characterization of a Paenibacillus woosongensis beta-Xylosidase/alpha-Arabinofuranosidase produced by recombinant Escherichia coli.

open access: yesJournal of microbiology and biotechnology, 2011
A gene encoding the beta-xylosidase/alpha-arabinofuranosidase (XylC) of Paenibacillus woosongensis was cloned into Escherichia coli. This xylC gene consisted of 1,425 nucleotides, encoding a polypeptide of 474 amino acid residues. The deduced amino acid sequence exhibited an 80% similarity with those of both Clostridium stercorarium beta-xylosidase ...
