Varicellovirus UL49.5 proteins differentially affect the function of the transporter associated with antigen processing, TAP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Cytotoxic T-lymphocytes play an important role in the protection against viral infections, which they detect through the recognition of virus-derived peptides, presented in the context of MHC class I molecules at the surface of the infected cell.

Genetic characterization of upper respiratory tract virome from nonvaccinated Egyptian cow-calf operations.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is the costliest complex disease affecting the cattle industry worldwide, with significant economic losses. BRD pathogenesis involves several interactions between microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses, and ...

Spread of bovine herpesvirus type 5 (BHV-5) in the rabbit brain after intranasal inoculation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurovirology, 1999
Following intranasal inoculation of wild-type BHV-5 in rabbits, we studied the sequential transneuronal passage of the virus in the CNS by immunocytochemistry, histopathology, and virus isolation. At 4 and 6 days postinfection (d.p.i.), rabbits had no or mild neurological signs, and virus was isolated only from the olfactory bulbs.

Characterization of BoHV-5 field strains circulation and report of transient specific subtype of bovine herpesvirus 5 in Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: Bovine herpesvirus 5 (BoHV-5) is a member of the subfamily Alphaherpesvirinae responsible for meningo-encephalitis in young cattle. The first case of bovine meningo-encephalitis associated with a herpesvirus infection was reported in ...

Fibrin deposition on bovine pericardium tissue used for bioprosthetic heart valve drives its calcification

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
BackgroundBioprosthetic heart valves (BHVs) are less thrombogenic than mechanical prostheses; however, BHV thrombosis has been proposed as a risk factor for premature BHV degeneration.ObjectivesWe aimed to explore whether fibrin deposition on bovine ...

Investigations of presence of antibodies against bovine herpesvirus-1 in blood serum of calves prior to colostrum diet [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinarski Glasnik, 2010
The paper presents the results of investigations of the presence of the bovine herpesvirus-1 (BHV-1) in samples of blood serum from 106 cows and 107 of their calves (one cow had twins).

454-Pyrosequencing: A Molecular Battiscope for Freshwater Viral Ecology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Viruses, the most abundant biological entities on the planet, are capable of infecting organisms from all three branches of life, although the majority infect bacteria where the greatest degree of cellular diversity lies.

Comparative investigations of immune response of calves at different intervals between primary and secondary immunization using inactivated bovine herpes virus 1 vaccine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) is one of the most siginificant causes of infections of the respiratory tract of cattle and immunoprophylaxis has a key role in curbing this infection.

The Role of the Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1) US3-Encoded Protein Kinase in Actin Reorganization and Nuclear Egress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The serine-threonine protein kinase encoded by US3 gene (pUS3) of alphaherpesviruses was shown to modulate actin reorganization, cell-to-cell spread, and virus egress in a number of virus species.

Production and characterization of monoclonal antibodies to a Brazilian bovine herpesvirus type 5

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2004
Antigens of a bovine herpesvirus type 5 (BHV-5), isolated from a cow with a neurological infection in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, were used to immunize BALB/c mice to produce monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). Eleven hybridomas secreting mAbs directed at
