Astrocytes regulate brain extracellular pH via a neuronal activity-dependent bicarbonate shuttle
Brain cells continuously produce and release protons into the extracellular space, with the rate of acid production corresponding to the levels of neuronal activity and metabolism.

Acid–base disturbances are common occurrence in acute care setting, their rapid assessment and analysis are important, and pH of 6.8–7.8 is compatible with life. The definition of acid and base is different for biochemist, physiologist, cook, and others.

Effects of fat source and dietary sodium bicarbonate plus straw on the conjugated linoleic acid content of milk of dairy cows [PDF]
The effects of fat source (0.7 kg of fatty acids from extruded soybeans or palmitic acid), of sodium bicarbonate (0.3 kg) plus straw (1 kg) and the interaction of these treatments on the content of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in the milk of dairy cows

Solubility of hydrogen in aqueous solutions of sodium and potassium bicarbonate from 293 to 333 K [PDF]
An experimental study is presented of the hydrogen solubility in aqueous salt solutions containing sodium and potassium bicarbonate from 293 to 333 K. For this purpose, gas consumption measurements have been performed by determining the ultimate pressure

Renal bicarbonate reabsorption during bicarbonate loading
To examine bicarbonate reabsorption at different GFR's, we varied the renal perfusion pressure in anesthetized dogs after inhibiting autoregulation by expanding extracellular volume and infusing ethacrynic acid. At a plasma bicarbonate concentration (PHCO3) of 28 +/- 1 mM, bicarbonate reabsorption varied in proportion to GFR (glomerulotubular balance).

Chronic Metabolic Acidosis in Chronic Kidney Disease
Background: Metabolic acidosis may be diagnosed as chronic (cMA) if it persists for at least 5 days, although an exact definition has not been provided by any guidelines yet. The most common cause is CKD; numerous less-known diseases can also account for
