Spinal Mechanisms of Testosterone Involved in Itch Regulation. [PDF]
Testosterone serves as an endogenous anti‐pruritic hormone underlying sex‐dependent itch differences. In the spinal dorsal horn, testosterone binds androgen receptors on GABAergic interneurons to enhance GABA release, suppressing GRPR+ − pruriceptive neurons through GABAA receptors and alleviating acute/chronic itch alongside itch‐comorbid anxiety ...

1,2-propanediol reformulation improves tribromoethanol safety and reveals pontine GABRA1 enrichment as a candidate mechanistic correlate of anesthesia. [PDF]
This study develops a reformulated tribromoethanol (TBE) anesthetic using 1,2‐propanediol as a solvent to overcome solvent‐related toxicity. The novel formulation demonstrates, cardiovascular stability, and survival in prolonged protocols. It provides potent, dose‐dependent anesthesia without strain or sex differences.

Sleep Deprivation and Neuronal Hyperexcitation Share Transcriptomic Signatures. [PDF]
This study demonstrated that sleep deprivation induces transcriptomic changes in mice and rats similar to those observed in various models of neuronal hyperexcitation. These findings suggest a potential link between sleep deprivation and neuropsychiatric disorders.

GABAergic Control of Nigrostriatal and Mesolimbic Dopamine in the Rat Brain
Purpose: The present study assessed the effects of the GABAA receptor (R) agonist muscimol (MUS), and the GABAAR antagonist bicuculline (BIC) on neocortical and subcortical radioligand binding to dopamine D2/3Rs in relation to motor and exploratory ...

Ketogenic diet sensitizes glucose control of hippocampal excitability1
A high-fat low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet (KD) is an effective treatment for refractory epilepsy, yet myriad metabolic effects in vivo have not been reconciled clearly with neuronal effects.

Effect of intrathecal glycine and related amino acids on the allodynia and hyperalgesic action of strychnine or bicuculline in mice [PDF]
BackgroundThe intrathecal (IT) administration of glycine or GABAA receptor antagonist result in a touch evoked allodynia through disinhibition in the spinal cord.

High Frequency Oscillations in Rat Hippocampal Slices: Origin, Frequency Characteristics, and Spread
Field potential oscillations reflect repetitive firing and synaptic activity by ensembles of neurons in certain areas of the brain. They can be distinguished as slow (e.g., alpha, delta, and theta), fast (e.g., beta and gamma), and high frequency ...

Activation of brain metabolism and fos during limbic seizures: The role of Locus Coeruleus
The noradrenergic nucleus Locus Coeruleus (LC) densely innervates limbic structures. In rats, the damage to LC by the neurotoxin DSP-4, converts episodic limbic seizures induced by bicuculline infusion in the anterior piriform cortex (APC) into self ...
