Biginelli Reaction: Polymer Supported Catalytic Approaches
ACS Combinatorial Science, 2019The Biginelli product, dihydropyrimidinone (DHPM) core, and its derivatives are of immense biological importance. There are several methods reported as modifications to the original Biginelli reaction. Among them, many involve the use of different catalysts.

Nebivolol nanoparticles: a first catalytic use in Biginelli and Biginelli-like reactions
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 2018Herein, we report the catalytic activity of nebivolol nanoparticles a novel organocatalyst for the synthesis of DHPMs and DHPM-5-carboxamides. The nanoparticles are confirmed by DSC, TEM, AFM, and IR spectroscopy. The catalyst can be readily recovered and reused for the next four runs without any significant impact on the yields of the products.

Pietro Biginelli: The Man Behind the Reaction
European Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2011AbstractThe Biginelli dihydropyrimidine synthesis is one of the most important and oldest multicomponent reactions and has been extensively investigated in terms of application and mechanism. Surprisingly, little information is available on its discoverer, the Piedmontese chemist Pietro Biginelli, who also carried out the first studies on the ...

Multicomponent Combinatorial Polymerization via the Biginelli Reaction
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2016A multicomponent combinatorial polymerization method has been exploited as a new intersection between combinatorial chemistry, polymer chemistry, and organic chemistry. The tricomponent Biginelli reaction has been employed as a model multicomponent reaction (MCR) to efficiently prepare a library of polycondensates with continuously changed chain ...

New potential of the classical Biginelli reaction
Russian Chemical Reviews, 2008The published data on the Biginelli reaction are generalised and systematised. The major attention is focused on the publications of the last seven years. Possible reaction mechanisms and its application for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one derivatives are considered. Examples of rare versions of this reaction are given.

Recent Advances in Biginelli-type Reactions
Current Organic Chemistry, 2020The effective and high yielding synthesis of poly-functionalized pyrimidines, using multicomponent reactions (MCRs), is imperative in organic and medicinal chemistry. The classic Biginelli reaction is a typically one-pot three-component cyclocondensation reaction involving an aldehyde, a β-ketoester and urea, resulting in the construction of multi ...
