Preparation of 24(R)- and 24(S)-5β-cholestane-3α,7α,24-triols and 25(R)- and 25(S)-5β-cholestane-3α,7α,26-triols by a hydroboration procedure

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1978
This report describes a new and convenient method for the preparation of 5β-cholestane-3α,7α,24-triol (24R and 24S) and 5β-cholestane-3α,7α,26-triol (25R and 25S) starting from 5β-cholestane-3α,7α,25-triol. Dehydration of the latter with acetic anhydride

Serum bile acids in alcoholics

open access: yesKanzo, 1978

Gut Microbial Topology and Metabolic Signatures Associated With Colorectal Neoplasia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The gut microbiota organizes into two robust association patterns linked to colorectal neoplasia risk. Topological shifts in microbial networks are associated with metabolite alterations and may shape host responses during disease development. ABSTRACT Alterations of gut microbial communities impact health.

Health disparities in chronic liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract The syndemic of hazardous alcohol consumption, opioid use, and obesity has led to important changes in liver disease epidemiology that have exacerbated health disparities. Health disparities occur when plausibly avoidable health differences are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations.

Regulatory Effect of Daidzein on Lipid and Bile Acid Metabolism Disorders in Alcoholic Liver Disease via the Gut-Liver Axis [PDF]

open access: yesShipin Kexue
This study explored the ameliorative effect of daidzein (DAI) on alcoholic liver disease (ALD) in rats and examined the underlying mechanism using transcriptomics and high-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing.

Metabolic Signatures for Liver Cancer Diagnosis and Mechanistic Insights: A Large‐Scale, Multicenter Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A large‐scale multicenter serum metabolomics study (13 centers, n = 2,149) identified a 9‐metabolite + AFP diagnostic signature for liver cancer (AUC = 0.93). Among the signature, nicotinamide (NAM) was validated as an oncometabolite: NAM enhances NAD+ synthesis, activating SIRT1 to deacetylate and stabilize HIF1α, thereby driving glycolysis, MAPK ...

A shared mucosal gut microbiota signature in primary sclerosing cholangitis before and after liver transplantation

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
In this study of the gut mucosal microbiota in primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), we found consistent microbiota features associated with PSC and recurrent PSC, PSC with inflammatory bowel disease and a persistent gut dysbiosis after liver transplantation Abstract Background and Aims Several characteristic features of the fecal microbiota have been ...

Alcohol-induced gut microbiome dysbiosis enhances the colonization of Klebsiella pneumoniae on the mouse intestinal tract

open access: yesmSystems
Chronic alcohol consumption, an important risk factor for diseases and deaths, can cause intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and increase the infection of some opportunistic pathogens. However, the current studies on the effects of alcohol-induced intestinal

CaMKIIδ Phosphorylates AUP1 to Promote Pancreatic Tissue Repair and Acinar‐to‐Ductal Metaplasia Formation via Mediating PERK‐Dependent Unfolded Protein Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CaMKIIδ–AUP1 signaling maintains PERK‐dependent ER homeostasis during ADM‐mediated pancreatic repair. ABSTRACT Pancreatic repair after acute pancreatitis (AP) is essential for restoring tissue integrity, but the intrinsic mechanisms coordinating acinar plasticity and regeneration remain poorly understood.
