Effects of bilobalide on amino acid release and electrophysiology of cortical slices

Amino Acids, 2002
This study investigated the effects of bilobalide, a constituent of Ginkgo biloba, on potassium and veratridine-induced release of glutamate and aspartate from mouse cortical slices. We also studied its effects on spontaneous and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-induced depolarizations elicited in magnesium-free artificial cerebrospinal fluid (aCSF) as well

Production of Ginkgolides and Bilobalide by Ginkgo biloba Plants and Tissue Cultures

Planta Medica, 1999
The accumulation of the terpenes ginkgolides and bilobalide in Ginkgo biloba was reported in plants as well as in plant cell cultures. Several hundred plants cultivated under controlled conditions in the field have been analyzed for their terpene production over many years.

[Progression of multiple innervation of reinnervated rat muscle treated with bilobalide].

Bollettino della Societa italiana di biologia sperimentale, 1991
During motor nerve regeneration a transitory polyinnervation of muscle cells occurs, which represents a phase of rearrangement of the recovered innervation. Bilobalide, a terpene extrated from Ginkgo biloba leaves, was proposed to affect some aspects of nervous system development and regeneration.
