Protein-ligand binding site recognition using complementary binding-specific substructure comparison and sequence profile alignment

open access: yesBioinform., 2013
MOTIVATION Identification of protein-ligand binding sites is critical to protein function annotation and drug discovery. However, there is no method that could generate optimal binding site prediction for different protein types.

Anion transport inhibitor binding to band 3 in red blood cell membranes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The inhibitor of anion exchange 4,4'-dibenzoamido-2,2'-disulfonic stilbene (DBDS) binds to band 3, the anion transport protein in human red cell ghost membranes, and undergoes a large increase in fluorescence intensity when bound to band 3.

The hepta-β-glucoside elicitor-binding proteins from legumes represent a putative receptor family [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The ability of legumes to recognize and respond to β-glucan elicitors by synthesizing phytoalexins is consistent with the existence of a membrane-bound β-glucan-binding site.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Discovery of the Liver Hyaluronan Receptor for Endocytosis (HARE) and Its Progressive Emergence as the Multi-Ligand Scavenger Receptor Stabilin-2

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2019
Since the discovery of a novel liver hyaluronan (HA) clearance receptor in 1981 by Laurent, Fraser and coworkers, 22 different ligands cleared by the renamed receptor (the Hyaluronan Receptor for Endocytosis (HARE); Stabilin-2 (Stab2)) were discovered ...

A New Strategy for Multitarget Drug Discovery/Repositioning Through the Identification of Similar 3D Amino Acid Patterns Among Proteins Structures: The Case of Tafluprost and its Effects on Cardiac Ion Channels

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2022
The identification of similar three-dimensional (3D) amino acid patterns among different proteins might be helpful to explain the polypharmacological profile of many currently used drugs.

The chloroplast import receptor Toc34 functions as preprotein-regulated GTPase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Toc34 is a protein of the chloroplast outer envelope membrane that acts as receptor for preproteins containing a transit sequence. The recognition of preproteins by Toc34 is regulated by GTP binding and phosphorylation.

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.
