Crystal structures of trypanosoma brucei oligopeptidase B broaden the paradigm of catalytic regulation in prolyl oligopeptidase family enzymes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Oligopeptidase B cleaves after basic amino acids in peptides up to 30 residues. As a virulence factor in bacteria and trypanosomatid pathogens that is absent in higher eukaryotes, this is a promising drug target.

PMS2 c.2117del (p.Lys706Serfs*19) is the Most Frequent Cancer‐Associated Founder Pathogenic Variant in the French‐Canadian Population of Quebec, Canada

open access: yesClinical Genetics, Volume 108, Issue 6, Page 747-751, December 2025.
Using haplotype analysis, we characterized PMS2 c.2117del, identified in 22 families, as a founder variant in the French‐Canadian population of Quebec. It is the most frequent cancer‐associated founder variant in French‐Canadians, with over‐representation in five regions of Quebec. The variant contributed to colorectal and endometrial cancer incidence.

Lactoferrin. A natural glycoprotein involved in iron and inflammatory homeostasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Human lactoferrin (hLf), an iron-binding multifunctional cationic glycoprotein secreted by exocrine glands and by neutrophils, is a key element of host defenses.

sRNA and cis-antisense sRNA identification in Staphylococcus aureus highlights an unusual sRNA gene cluster with one encoding a secreted peptide

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus expresses a set of transcriptional factors and small RNAs (sRNAs) to adapt to environmental variations. Recent harmonization of staphylococcal sRNA data allowed us to search for novel sRNAs using DETR’PROK, a ...

Dominant‐Negative Effects of p53 R337 Variants in Li–Fraumeni Syndrome: Impact on Tetramer Formation and Transcriptional Activity

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 22, November 17, 2025.
Hetero‐tetramer dysfunction: Li–Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) is a hereditary cancer predisposition caused by mutations in the TP53 gene encoding the tumor suppressor p53. It is shown that p53 variants R337C and R337H, found in LFS, impair wild‐type (WT) p53 function by forming heterotetramers with reduced transcriptional activity.

Human low density lipoprotein subfractions separated by gradient gel electrophoresis: composition, distribution, and alterations induced by cholesteryl ester transfer protein.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1990
Low density lipoprotein (LDL) subfractions were studied in sera from 208 normolipidemic, 22 hypercholesterolemic, and 33 hypertriglyceridemic subjects.

The Warburg Effect in Yeast: Repression of Mitochondrial Metabolism Is Not a Prerequisite to Promote Cell Proliferation

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
O. Warburg conducted one of the first studies on tumor energy metabolism. His early discoveries pointed out that cancer cells display a decreased respiration and an increased glycolysis proportional to the increase in their growth rate, suggesting that ...

A functional RNase P protein subunit of bacterial origin in some eukaryotes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
RNase P catalyzes 5′-maturation of tRNAs. While bacterial RNase P comprises an RNA catalyst and a protein cofactor, the eukaryotic (nuclear) variant contains an RNA and up to ten proteins, all unrelated to the bacterial protein.

Impact of preanalytical delay on the performance of plasma Aβ42, Aβ42/40, p‐tau217, and p‐tau217/Aβ42 in detecting brain amyloidosis in the ALZAN cohort

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 21, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND Alzheimer disease (AD), the leading cause of dementia, has increased interest in the development of blood‐based biomarkers for early diagnosis and monitoring. The plasma amyloid beta (Aβ)42/Aβ40 ratio and phosphorylated tau (p‐tau) isoforms closely align with cerebrospinal fluid and positron emission tomography markers.

Role of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) in the HDL conversion process as evidenced by using anti-CETP monoclonal antibodies

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1990
The implication of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) in the high density lipoprotein (HDL) conversion process was studied by incubating HDL3 with a purified CETP preparation for 24 h at 37 degrees C.
