Sclerostin inhibition alleviates breast cancer-induced bone metastases and muscle weakness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Breast cancer bone metastases often cause a debilitating non-curable condition with osteolytic lesions, muscle weakness and a high mortality. Current treatment comprises chemotherapy, irradiation, surgery and anti-resorptive drugs that restrict but do ...

Midbrain PAG Astrocytes Modulate Mouse Defensive and Panic‐Like Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Astrocytes in the midbrain periaqueductal gray (PAG) dynamically encode threat intensity and shape defensive action selection in mice. Real‐time Ca2+ imaging reveals robust astrocytic activation during predator odor and CO2 exposure. Aberrant astrocytic Ca2+ overactivation disrupts goal‐directed escape, biases behavior toward freezing, and induces ...

Factors Influencing Quantification of in Vivo Bioluminescence Imaging: Application to Assessment of Pancreatic Islet Transplants

open access: yesMolecular Imaging, 2004
The aim of this study is to determine and characterize factors influencing in vivo bioluminescence imaging (BLI) and apply them to the specific application of imaging transplanted pancreatic islets.

The small molecule ephrin receptor inhibitor, GLPG1790, Reduces renewal capabilities of cancer stem cells, showing anti-tumour efficacy on preclinical glioblastoma models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Therapies against glioblastoma (GBM) show a high percentage of failure associated with the survival of glioma stem cells (GSCs) that repopulate treated tumours.

Strawberry Notch 1 Acts as a Transcriptional Regulator Driving Oncogenic Programs in Liver Carcinogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reports that SBNO1 protein is upregulated in several cancer entities. SBNO1 protein interacts with the basal transcription factor TFIID via TAF4, enabling its recruitment to transcription start sites and the modulation of target gene expression.

In vivo bioluminescence imaging and histopathopathologic analysis reveal distinct roles for resident and recruited immune effector cells in defense against invasive aspergillosis

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2010
Background Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is a major cause of infectious morbidity and mortality in immune compromised patients. Studies on the pathogenesis of IA have been limited by the difficulty to monitor disease progression in real-time. For real-time

Mitochondrial Calcium Uniporter Drives Chemoresistance in Pancreatic Cancer via Glutathione‐Mediated Stemness Maintenance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PDAC has a poor prognosis due to chemoresistance. We revealed that MCU upregulation is associated with chemoresistance and stemness in PDAC. MCU‐mediated Ca2+ influx induced ER stress, activating the PERK‐ATF4/NRF2 axis to enhance PSAT1/SLC711 expression and glutathione synthesis, reducing ROS and maintaining stemness.

Genetically encoded fluorogenic RNA-based bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) sensors for cellular imaging and target detection

open access: yesSLAS Discovery
Fluorescence- and bioluminescence-based probes are valuable tools for understanding cell functions in health and disease. Bioluminescence offers an ideal complementary readout to fluorescence due to its minimal background interference and self ...

Luciferase expression and bioluminescence does not affect tumor cell growth in vitro or in vivo

open access: yesMolecular Cancer, 2010
Live animal imaging is becoming an increasingly common technique for accurate and quantitative assessment of tumor burden over time. Bioluminescence imaging systems rely on a bioluminescent signal from tumor cells, typically generated from expression of ...

Accomplishments and challenges in stem cell imaging in vivo. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Stem cell therapies have demonstrated promising preclinical results, but very few applications have reached the clinic owing to safety and efficacy concerns.
