A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

Gender differences in views and expectations from having PhD degree in biomedicine and health sciences at Zagreb University School of Medicine: women seek better jobs, men expect to earn more money

open access: yesEuropean journal of public health, 2008
Background: The number of all university diplomas and PhD degrees earned by women showed slope increasing trend during last 30 years in Croatia, while the corresponding numbers for men are stable. The same pattern was observed if only diplomas and PhDs in field of biomedicine and health sciences were considered. Objectives: PhD programme in biomedicine

Aging Is a Key Driver for Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a classical age‐related hematologic malignancy, and a key driver of AML is aging, which profoundly regulates intrinsic factors such as genomic instability, epigenetic reprogramming, and metabolic dysregulation, and alters bone marrow microenvironment.

Non-gene-edited neural stem cells reverse neuroinflammation and microbiota dysbiosis in a sprague-dawley rat model of autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesTranslational Psychiatry
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition with limited treatment options, where neuroinflammation and gut microbiota dysbiosis are emerging as interconnected therapeutic targets.

Gut microbiota remodeling exacerbates neuroinflammation and cognitive dysfunction via the microbiota-gut-brain axis in prenatal VPA-exposed C57BL/6 mice offspring

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
IntroductionPrenatal exposure to valproic acid (VPA) is a recognized risk factor for autism spectrum disorder (ASD)-like phenotypes, yet the mechanisms linking gut microbiota dysbiosis to neurodevelopmental impairments remain poorly understood.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Adult Learning in STEM Disciplines

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) are reshaping adult learning in STEM by providing adaptive, data‐driven instruction across classrooms, workplaces, and informal environments. In the context of ITS, this article compares generative AI, which creates personalized explanations and practice materials, with explainable AI, which focuses on ...

Remote Assessment of Ataxia Severity in SCA3 Across Multiple Centers and Time Points

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a genetically defined ataxia. The Scale for Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) is a clinician‐reported outcome that measures ataxia severity at a single time point. In its standard application, SARA fails to capture short‐term fluctuations, limiting its sensitivity in trials.

Clustering Algorithm Reveals Dopamine‐Motor Mismatch in Cognitively Preserved Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore the relationship between dopaminergic denervation and motor impairment in two de novo Parkinson's disease (PD) cohorts. Methods n = 249 PD patients from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) and n = 84 from an external clinical cohort.
