AbstractThe synthesis of (‐)‐biopterin (1) was accomplished by employing (1S,2S)‐1‐(2‐furyl)‐2‐(trityloxy)‐1‐propanol (6), derived from ethyl (S)‐lactate, as building block for the side chain.

Biosynthesis of Biopterin by Rat Brain
Journal of Neurochemistry, 1982Abstract: A method for the determination of [14C]biopterin biosynthesis from [14C]guanosine‐5′‐triphosphate by a desalted preparation from rat striatum, based on sequential reverse‐phase and cation‐exchange high performance liquid chromatography, is described.

An unambiguous synthesis of biopterin [2-amino-6-(L-erythro-1,2-dihydroxypropyl)pteridin-4-(3H)-one] is described; based on an improved synthesis of L-neopterin. The synthesis yields biopterin, a naturally occurring pteridine, in a pure, crystalline form without recourse to chromatography. D-Biopterin and D-neopterin are also described.

Biopterin and neopterin in human saliva
Life Sciences, 1989Presence of biopterin and neopterin in human saliva was investigated by HPLC after iodine oxidation in acidic medium. Concentrations of biopterin and neopterin (M +/- SEM) were 1.271 +/- 0.254 and 0.358 +/- 0.075 ng per ml, respectively, in saliva of apparently healthy young male adults, ages 20 to 22 years (n = 9).

Pteridine diuretics as biopterin antagonists
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1974Abstract A series of pteridines having varying degrees of diuretic activity were tested for their effects on the growth of the pteridine-requiring flagellate, Crithidia fasciculata . Inhibition of growth was correlated with diuretic activity insofar as compounds devoid of diuretic effects were uninhibitory and active inhibitors were also good to ...
