The Transcriptional Architecture of Bacterial Biosynthetic Gene Clusters
AbstractBacteria produce diverse bioactive metabolites with ecological and pharmaceutical importance. These compounds are synthesized by biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs), whose expression is tightly regulated. While many studies have examined the factors influencing BGC expression, including transcription factors (TFs) and environmental signals, the ...

Heterologous Expression of Novobiocin and Clorobiocin Biosynthetic Gene Clusters [PDF]
ABSTRACT A method was developed for the heterologous expression of biosynthetic gene clusters in different Streptomyces strains and for the modification of these clusters by single or multiple gene replacements or gene deletions with unprecedented speed and versatility.

Microbiological and molecular insights on rare Actinobacteria harboring bioactive prospective
Background Actinobacteria is as a group of advanced filamentous bacteria. Rare Actinobacteria are of special interest as they are rarely isolated from the environments. They are a major source of important bioactive compounds.

Widespread occurrence of secondary lipid biosynthesis potential in microbial lineages. [PDF]
Bacterial production of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3), is constrained to a narrow subset of marine γ-proteobacteria.

Diazaquinomycin Biosynthetic Gene Clusters from Marine and Freshwater Actinomycetes [PDF]
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease of global concern. Members of the diazaquinomycin (DAQ) class of natural products have shown potent and selective activity against drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. However, poor solubility has prevented further development of this compound class.

KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.
